About The Position

Ensures all trucks, trailers and yard tractors are in working order and are compliant to federal standards. This role involves demonstrating proficiency in the inspection, repair, and diagnosis of various vehicle systems, including diesel engines, power trains, electrical systems, HVAC, steering, electronics, engine bolt-on items, brake systems, suspension systems, and after-treatment devices. The Fleet Mechanic II will perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance, complete vehicle diagnosis, and preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment. They will also perform required maintenance repairs to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and company-owned equipment. Additionally, this role requires abiding by all company policies and safety rules, assisting in maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and helping drivers with outstanding vehicle issues. The position maintains repairs for Class A trucks, trailers, and yard tractors and involves the safe operation of various tools and equipment, as well as performing DOT inspections and ensuring compliancy.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of Diesel Maintenance Repair experience
  • Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills
  • Experience working with air brake, hydraulic and electrical systems.
  • Broad understanding of fleet maintenance policies, FMCSA standards and industry practices.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, make decisions as needed
  • Effective communicator and team player

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced using trailer maintenance software preferred

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate gaining proficiency in the inspection, repair and diagnosis of diesel engines, power train to include differentials, transmissions, clutches, drive shafts, wheel ends.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical systems including starters, alternators and lights.
  • Diagnose and repair HVAC systems.
  • Diagnose and repair steering systems.
  • Diagnose and repair electronics to include ECM's, ECU's, sensors etc.
  • Diagnose and repair engine bolt on items such as turbos, fan clutches, cooling system etc.
  • Diagnose and repair brake systems including ABS & air disk brakes.
  • Diagnose and repair suspension systems (spring and air) including tire issues, and after treatment devices such as DPF and DOC.
  • Perform electrical system repairs, cooling system maintenance and complete vehicle diagnosis.
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) on tractor and trailer equipment including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
  • Perform maintenance repairs as required to maximize safety and reliability on all fleet vehicles including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and any company-owned equipment.
  • Abide by all Company policies and safety rules and assist in maintaining a clean, safe work environment.
  • Assist drivers with addressing outstanding vehicle issues.
  • Maintains repairs for Class A trucks, trailers and yard tractors.
  • Safely operates gauges, forklifts, shunt truck, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
  • Performs DOT inspections and compliancy.
