About The Position

The Fleet Mechanic I ensures trucks, trailers, and yard tractors are in working order and compliant with federal standards. The role diagnoses and repairs fleet vehicle components, performs preventive maintenance and repairs, completes repair orders, and supports drivers with outstanding vehicle issues. The mechanic maintains class 8 trucks, trailers, yard tractors, lift-gates, and other company-owned equipment while following company policies and safety rules and helping keep the work environment clean and safe. The position also performs DOT inspections and compliance work.

The work may involve repairs in confined spaces or awkward positions, exposure to changing extreme heat and cold, noise, and heights, as well as walking long distances and standing or sitting for extended periods. Repetitive bending, stooping, squatting, or kneeling may be required.

Requirements

• Ability to work unsupervised and make decisions as needed.
• Effective communication skills and ability to be a team player.
• Heavy diesel truck and trailer mechanic skills.
• Experience working with air brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems.

Nice To Haves

• Prior welding and fabrication experience.
• Tire repair experience, including repair, mounting, and dismounting.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair truck and trailer components, including doors, floors, side panels, electrical systems, and air brake systems.
• Perform preventive maintenance on tractor and trailer equipment, including routine technical repairs and completing repair orders.
• Perform maintenance repairs to maximize the safety and reliability of fleet vehicles, including tractors, trailers, lift-gates, and company-owned equipment.
• Follow company policies and safety rules and help maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Assist drivers with outstanding vehicle issues.
• Maintain class 8 trucks, trailers, and yard tractors.
• Safely operate gauges, forklifts, a shunt truck, torches, grinders, and various hand and power tools.
• Perform DOT inspections and compliance work.
