About The Position

The Fleet Manager is responsible for the strategic and operational management of Pro Energy’s fleet operations, including light- and heavy-duty trucks, trailers, heavy equipment, construction equipment, and tooling across multiple business units and jobsites. This position oversees all aspects of fleet performance including DOT compliance, maintenance operations, procurement, vendor management, telematics, budgeting, asset utilization, and lifecycle planning. The Fleet Manager provides leadership to Fleet Administrators, Fleet Compliance Coordinators, mechanics, and other fleet support personnel while partnering closely with Operations, Safety, Finance, Estimating, and Project Management to ensure company assets remain safe, compliant, cost effective, and operationally ready to support field operations.

Requirements

  • Strong working knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and fleet compliance requirements.
  • Strong equipment maintenance and mechanical knowledge related to light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty trucks, heavy equipment, trailers, and construction equipment.
  • Proven experience managing maintenance programs, fleet operations, and vendor relationships.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to build, mentor, and manage high-performing teams.
  • Exceptional multitasking, organizational, and prioritization skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical, reporting, and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret fleet data and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, and advanced Excel functions such as formulas, pivot tables, and reporting dashboards.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff, external vendors, and service providers.
  • Ability and willingness to travel frequently to jobsites, yards, and vendor locations.
  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive fleet management experience required.
  • Demonstrated experience managing DOT compliance for regulated commercial fleets required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver’s License, Class C, with the ability to maintain insurability under the company’s insurance carrier.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience negotiating vendor agreements, service contracts, leases, and national account programs preferred.
  • Experience with fleet management and telematics systems including Samsara, Fleetio, AutoIntegrate, Coast, or similar platforms is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience managing fleet personnel and operations preferred.
  • Direct experience managing construction or mixed fleets consisting of 400+ assets strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, Operations Management, or related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Class A driver’s license is desirable.
  • CAFM, CAFS, CEM, or other fleet management certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements fleet management processes, maintenance programs, reporting standards, and operational best practices to improve fleet performance, reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Provides leadership, direction, training, and development for fleet personnel including workload prioritization and performance management.
  • Oversees DOT and FMCSA compliance including driver qualification files, registrations, inspections, permits, DVIRs, IFTA/IRP requirements, hours-of-service compliance, and related recordkeeping.
  • Manages fleet maintenance operations including preventive maintenance schedules, repairs, rebuilds, warranty recovery, repair workflows, and vendor service coordination.
  • Performs and oversees field inspections of vehicles, trailers, equipment, and tooling to ensure operational readiness and compliance standards are maintained.
  • Oversees vendor relationships including repair facilities, dealerships, OEMs, fuel providers, tire vendors, parts suppliers, and upfitters to ensure cost-effective and timely service delivery.
  • Leads procurement activities for vehicles, trailers, heavy equipment, and tooling including equipment specifications, sourcing, purchasing, leasing, and rental coordination.
  • Administers fleet technology systems including Samsara, Fleetio, AutoIntegrate, Coast fuel cards, and related fleet management platforms.
  • Oversees dashcam and telematics logistics including ordering, installation coordination, inventory tracking, and asset assignments.
  • Monitors and analyzes fleet KPIs including utilization, downtime, fuel usage, maintenance costs, compliance metrics, and safety events; prepares reporting and recommendations for leadership.
  • Partners with Safety and Operations leadership regarding unsafe driving behaviors identified through telematics and dashcam systems, including coaching, retraining, and corrective action efforts.
  • Coordinates fleet inventory, assignments, transfers, and movement between jobsites, yards, and business units based on operational needs.
  • Oversees onboarding and setup of new fleet assets including licensing, decals, telematics installation, safety equipment, fuel cards, and required documentation.
  • Manages disposal and remarketing activities for vehicles and equipment including auctions, trade-ins, and direct sales.
  • Develops and manages fleet operating and capital budgets, forecasts, and cost-control initiatives.
  • Assists field personnel and management with troubleshooting and assessment of mechanical and operational fleet issues.
  • Travels regularly to jobsites, yards, vendors, and maintenance facilities to support fleet operations and conduct inspections.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
