About The Position

The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization's fleet of vehicles and equipment to ensure they are safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective. This position manages vehicle acquisition, maintenance, repairs, licensing, fuel usage, driver compliance, and fleet performance while ensuring adherence to company policies and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of fleet management or transportation management experience.
  • Strong knowledge of fleet maintenance and repair practices.
  • Understanding of DOT regulations, FMCSA requirements, and vehicle safety standards.
  • Experience with fleet management software and GPS/telematics systems.
  • Strong analytical and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • Ability to negotiate effectively with vendors and service providers.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Ability to analyze reports and make data-driven decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Logistics, Transportation Management, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Experience managing commercial vehicle fleets preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the company's fleet of vehicles and equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime.
  • Coordinate vehicle inspections, repairs, and warranty work with internal technicians and external vendors.
  • Monitor fleet performance, utilization, fuel consumption, and operating costs.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including DOT, OSHA, and environmental requirements where applicable.
  • Maintain accurate records for vehicle registrations, titles, insurance, permits, inspections, and maintenance history.
  • Oversee vehicle acquisition, replacement, disposal, and asset lifecycle management.
  • Negotiate contracts and pricing with vendors, repair facilities, leasing companies, and fuel providers.
  • Monitor driver qualifications, licensing, training, and compliance with company safety policies.
  • Investigate vehicle accidents and coordinate insurance claims and corrective actions.
  • Develop and enforce fleet policies and procedures.
  • Prepare reports and analyze fleet metrics to identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.
  • Manage fleet budgets and recommend capital expenditures.
  • Handle the coordination of after-hours support as needed.
