About The Position

The Operations Manager (Ops Manager) is responsible for managing the operations and personnel at an out-service location. This role oversees Operations Supervisors, Technicians-In-Charge, Customer Service Coordinators, Technicians, Service Employees, and/or a Parts Responsible Person to support the needs of the assigned location. The Ops Manager must achieve results through direct involvement and limited delegation, ensuring business objectives and labor requirements are met. This position is accountable for meeting customer needs while balancing financial, operating, quality, safety, and asset targets against business requirements, as measured by leadership competencies and business metrics. The Ops Manager is responsible for managing the location's performance against metrics to meet or exceed assigned objectives and ensuring compliance with all key company processes, Standard Operating Procedures, and Standard Repair Practices. This role may also serve as a developmental position for future Senior Operations Manager roles, offering career pathing and internal promotion opportunities based on performance. Requirements

  • H.S. diploma/GED required.
  • Two (2) years or more experience in an operations environment or demonstrated success in a Ryder role required.
  • 0 to One (1) year Supervisory experience required.
  • Ability to professionally represent Ryder and competently interact with customer management.
  • Capacity to understand labor, financial, operating, quality, safety, and asset processes and related metrics.
  • Strong sense of personal accountability and a proven track record of achieving desired results.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Competent in basic computer skills and in a Microsoft Office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Optimizing labor at the shop, ensuring the optimal mix of straight time, O/T, and Outside Repair.
  • Optimizing shift patterns to match the supply of qualified tech hours versus equipment availability based on customer operating hours.
  • Overseeing work analysis, vehicle planning and scheduling, scheduling and assigning work to technicians, productivity tracking and optimization, shift and shop meetings, and RO review and approval.
  • Overseeing the execution of the Automated Planning System (APS).
  • Providing management, training, and development for all assigned personnel.
  • Responsible for Performance Management of all assigned personnel.
  • Ensuring successful development and execution of the Technical Training Plan in coordination with the Field Training Team.
  • Prioritizing the TOPS plan based on Breakdown, Rework, and Running Cost trends.
  • Managing Recruiting, Hiring, On-boarding, Payroll, and Succession Planning.
  • Directly responsible for customer relationship management, including issue resolution, customer satisfaction, and retention, as well as ensuring vehicle uptime.
  • Optimizing vehicle maintenance cycle time and ensuring the shop meets or exceeds Delivered in Time Promised objectives based on customer requirements.
  • Ensuring complete execution of the Customer Communication Protocol.
  • Collaborating with the Sales Team to develop the service requirement section of the Customer Care Plan for effective service delivery.
  • Conducting customer visits and annual reviews as required by the Customer Care Plan.
  • Responsible for Customer Retention and Maintenance CSI through optimal execution of the Maintenance Promise.
  • Directing direct reports in maintaining the appearance and maintenance of the assigned location, including sustaining 6S standards throughout the shop.
  • Responsible for the execution of Asset Management initiatives at the shop level.
  • Evaluating needs and making recommendations for shop tooling and equipment requirements.
  • Managing and overseeing vehicle specifications and the vehicle in-service/out-service process.
  • Providing input during business unit asset management reviews.
  • Ensuring all vehicles have required specifications in SAM.
  • Responsible for Parts Inventory management, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborating with Rental in scheduling PM’s, utilization of assets, subs, VMI, and wash log.
  • Responsible for Quality Inspections of PM & repairs, and performing In Process Reviews on non-PM work.
  • Leading breakdown root cause analysis process, implementing corrective actions locally, and communicating issues to the Technical Assistance Center when necessary.
  • Maintaining control/visibility over shop floor activities to ensure proper root cause diagnosis by technicians and optimized yield on all parts/components.
  • Responsible for all Mandatory Compliance items at the Shop Level as identified on the Quality Review inspection list.
  • Accountable for all Quality Metrics within the Shop.
  • Developing and ensuring implementation of Quality Assurance Audit Corrective Action plans and Continuous Improvement programs.
  • Accountable for the maintenance of all relevant documentation required to meet or exceed local, state, federal, and customer requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring a safe workplace and providing guidance for all safety efforts and initiatives.
  • Ensuring cleanliness and quality of repair for all maintained vehicles.
  • Complying with Safety, State, and EPA regulations and requirements.
  • Ensuring the shop delivers against Net Maintenance Cost per Unit objectives without sacrificing quality, safety, or customer satisfaction.
  • Implementing cost control measures related to the maintenance operations budget and location P&L statement to meet financial objectives.
  • Directly responsible for the successful execution of Maintenance Initiatives to attain or exceed specified financial targets.
  • Responsible for the optimization of net maintenance cost per unit.
  • Working with the vendor sourcing group to identify potential and preferred vendors for specific facilities and vehicle maintenance services.
  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of third-party invoices and the quality of work outsourced to vendors.
  • Responsible for Payroll, Purchase Order approval, invoice reconciliation, and fuel reconciliation, including all liquid inventories (fuel, DEF, oil).
  • Responsible for the customer bill back process, including identification, review, and approval of bill back opportunities.
  • Responsible for ensuring proper documentation and explanation/reporting of re-billable activity.
  • Responsible for the Warranty process and maximizing Warranty recovery in the shop.
  • Ensuring data integrity in the shop management online system.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
