Fleet Maintenance Manager (Diesel Trucks & Heavy Equipment) – Lansing, MI
About The Position
This is a high-impact leadership role with operational influence across the company. The Fleet Maintenance Manager will lead maintenance strategy to improve uptime, reliability, and cost performance. The manager will lead shop operations, parts management, and maintenance strategy, coaching and developing a skilled team of supervisors, mechanics, and parts staff. Requirements
- Minimum 7 years of experience maintaining diesel trucks and heavy equipment.
- At least 2 years of management experience in a multi-shift maintenance environment.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and team development skills.
- Intermediate skills with Microsoft 365 and fleet management software.
- Ability to drive results through data, organization, and accountability.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in diesel technology, management, or related field preferred.
- Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician Certification preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lead all shop operations to maintain fleet reliability, uptime, and safety performance.
- Manage and develop supervisors, mechanics, and the parts team through coaching, training, and performance management.
- Use fleet management software and data to prioritize work, identify issues, and improve maintenance outcomes.
- Oversee parts department operations, including purchasing, inventory levels, and vendor performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, safety, accounting, and leadership teams.
- Manage maintenance budgets, approve expenses, and optimize total cost of ownership.
- Ensure new equipment is received, inspected, and properly commissioned before service.
- Drive safety initiatives, incident reviews, and injury prevention efforts.
- Lead continuous improvement efforts in maintenance processes, inventory management, and shop efficiency.
