About The Position

The purpose of this position is to ensure the proper operation and maintenance of all County vehicles and equipment, supervise department mechanics and ensure programs maintenance schedules are adhered. This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences.

Requirements

  • Requires an Associate’s degree, vocational technical degree or specialized training that is equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college education.
  • Requires over ten years of automotive systems, maintenance and repairs or related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history.

Nice To Haves

  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) A Series, B Series, and C1 certifications are preferred.
  • Applicants who do not currently possess these certifications must be willing to obtain them within the timeframe established by the department.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals.
  • Coordinates, assigns and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed.
  • Ensures adherence to standards and regulations and that the shop is properly staffed.
  • Preserves an effective cost efficient and productive program.
  • Maintains thorough, accurate and detailed records as needed.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates the repair and maintenance of the County fleet.
  • Coordinates 24-hour on-call service for all County vehicles.
  • Performs diagnostics, maintenance, and repair on vehicles and equipment and assists technicians.
  • Ensures that routine maintenance obligations are performed through periodic inspection of equipment.
  • Checks and reviews pre-trips and preventive maintenance documentation.
  • Ensures that services are performed on equipment, by vendors and mechanics, through inspection and follow ups.
  • Investigates and immediately reports all equipment malfunctions and breakdowns.
  • Conducts fleet evaluations to ensure maintenance standards are met.
  • Contacts appropriate dealers for cost estimates and part replacements.
  • Ensures safe and reliable vehicles and equipment are available as needed.
  • Performs related work as assigned.
