About The Position

The purpose of this position is to lead a maintenance department by performing routine and adhoc maintenance to a fleet of diesel trucks. This role involves diagnosing, adjusting, and repairing various truck and trailer equipment, including electrical/brake/cooling systems, starters/alternators, air conditioning systems, fan clutches, engine electronics, power steering systems, engines (gas and diesel), transmissions (manual and automatic), clutches, and differentials. The position also includes inspecting equipment to diagnose malfunctions, performing preventative maintenance, directing and training personnel on company procedures and repairs, participating in the selection process for new personnel, managing parts inventory, ordering required parts, and creating/maintaining personnel schedules. The Fleet Maintenance Lead must maintain current knowledge of regulations and ensure all work complies with safety, health, and environmental policies, as well as federal regulations (OSHA, EPA, DOT). Attendance at weekly department meetings and participation in a rotating on-call schedule are also required. Other duties as assigned by management.

Requirements

  • Technical/Vocational/Associate Degree in vehicle maintenance related field.
  • Four or more years in a lead/supervisory maintenance role or equivalent preferred.
  • At least two years’ experience in vehicle mechanics and maintenance.
  • One to two years’ experience in Windows based systems and programs including MS office.
  • Class A CDL
  • Ability to hold a valid DOT medical certificate
  • Strong mechanical/electrical/engineering aptitude.
  • Good troubleshooting/problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to prioritize and work productively in a multi-tasking environment.
  • Ability to lead team/strong supervisory and people skills.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability and willingness to learn several associated jobs
  • Strong computer aptitude and familiarity with systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Diesel mechanic certification preferred.
  • Candidates that are detailed-oriented and accurate are preferred.
  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, adjust, and repair various types of truck/trailer equipment including, but not limited to the following: Electrical/Brake/Cooling Systems, Starters/Alternators, Air conditioning systems, Fan clutches, Engine electronics, Power steering systems, Engines (gas and diesel), Transmissions (manual and automatic), Clutches, Differentials, etc.
  • Inspect to diagnose malfunctions and perform preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Direct and train personnel on company procedures and tractor/trailer repairs and maintenance including new hires.
  • Participate in the selection process when new fleet maintenance personnel are needed.
  • Manage part inventory and identifies and order required parts for vehicle maintenance.
  • Creates and maintains fleet maintenance personnel schedules in areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain current knowledge of regulations and perform all work in compliance with organization safety, health, and environmental policies, federal regulations and forms, to include OSHA, EPA, and DOT.
  • Attend weekly department meetings as required.
  • Rotating on call after hours.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
