About The Position

As a Fleet Diesel Mechanic, you’ll play an important role in keeping our transportation fleet safe, reliable and ready to serve our customers. You’ll work on a variety of truck and trailer equipment and use your mechanical expertise to diagnose and repair everything from diesel and gasoline engines to electrical, electronic, brake and powertrain systems. Safety and compliance are our highest priorities. As a Fleet Diesel Mechanic, you’ll use your mechanical training and experience to keep transportation vehicles at our Kent WA maintenance shop safe, well maintained and in good working condition while minimizing vehicle downtime and impacts to customer deliveries. This includes being ready to deploy immediately to field service calls as they arise during your shift.

This is a hands-on role for a skilled mechanic who enjoys diagnosing problems, making repairs and working with a variety of mechanical, electrical and electronic systems. You’ll perform preventive maintenance, inspections and scheduled services while helping ensure our fleet meets applicable safety and environmental requirements.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent and 2–3 years of related mechanic experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated ability to diagnose and repair fleet vehicles and related systems.
• Proficiency using standard shop tools and equipment.
• Own basic set of typical mechanic’s hand tools; the shop provides vehicle-specific equipment as needed.
• Ability to read and interpret written, verbal and other forms of communication and respond effectively.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, understand units of measurement and solve moderately complex problems using general information.
• Understanding of vehicle safety and environmental regulations.
• Basic computer skills.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

Nice To Haves

• CDL with Hazmat and Tanker endorsements.
• Petroleum tank truck experience.
• Experience working with diesel and gasoline fleet vehicles.
• Knowledge of petroleum equipment.
• Experience with Cummins Insite diagnostic systems.
• Experience with Detroit DiagnosticLink systems.
• Technical school training or an associate degree in a related field.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair diesel and gasoline engines, including turbos, injectors and cooling systems.
• Diagnose and repair powertrain components including differentials, transmissions, clutches, driveshafts, PTOs and wheel ends.
• Diagnose and repair electrical systems including starters, alternators, HVAC and steering systems.
• Diagnose and repair electronic systems including ECMs, ECUs and sensors.
• Diagnose and repair brake, ABS and suspension systems, including air and spring suspension.
• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections and scheduled services on truck and trailer equipment.
• Identify warranty and recall repairs and document work in accordance with company procedures.
• Use diagnostic instruments, gauges, test equipment and shop tools to identify and resolve malfunctions.
• Safely weld and operate hand tools, hydraulic lifts, pneumatic tools and other shop equipment.
• Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment.
• Communicate effectively and work collaboratively with the maintenance team and other departments.
• Follow all applicable Department of Transportation and Department of Ecology safety and environmental standards.
• Maintain a strong focus on safe work practices and equipment operation.
• Help ensure fleet vehicles are maintained in a condition that supports safe and reliable operation.
