About The Position

Leidos is seeking a to contribute to cutting-edge engineering efforts within our Undersea Systems Division (USD). The selected candidate will be part of an elite, top notch group responsible for development, manufacture, and test of electro-mechanical devices for use with Unmanned Vehicles and other undersea systems and maritime mission applications. This individual will work closely with the government-industry engineering team through all project phases. This position will require the candidate to work a 9/80B schedule (80 hours of work into nine days over a two-week period, allowing for every other Friday off) to align with the NIWC government team.

Requirements

  • US Navy Small Boat Coxswain Certification
  • Minimum 12 years’ experience operating US Navy small boats 10m or greater
  • Experience operating a small boat with US Navy divers using SCUBA or surface supply
  • Experience operating small boats during UUV/USV operations
  • Experience with launching and recovering USVs or AUVs
  • Familiarity with USCG regulations including Navigation Rules of the Road
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, able to work in small, collaborative teams comprised of both contractor and government engineers and technicians
  • Must be flexible and responsive to customer needs
  • Must be well-organized and detail-oriented
  • Ability to work on several projects concurrently
  • Familiarity with hand and power tools such as electric drills, saws, landscaping tools, etc.
  • Requires frequent movement around piers, docks, and facility spaces.
  • Required to transport or lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds across the facility.
  • Requires constant use of hands/fingers to operate machinery, tools, or computer equipment
  • Requires ability to move about the warehouse, stoop, kneel, or reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to climb ladders up to 20 ft.
  • Able and willing to work aboard marine vessels of various sizes, sometimes overnight.
  • Requires work in various temperatures and inclement weather.
  • Required work in /or in loud production environments
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • US Citizenship
  • Currently holds a DoD Secret clearance

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years’ experience operating US Navy small boats 10m or greater
  • Experience operating and maintaining RHIBs with both inboard and outboard engines
  • Experience with Cummins QSM11 670hp engines with twin HTX30 Hamilton jets

Responsibilities

  • Operation and maintenance of government owned vessels, primarily a 44’ RHIB with a full cabin, dual inboard Cummins QSM11 670hp engines with twin HTX30 Hamilton jets
  • Complete vessel operations and maintenance logs
  • Control of shipboard Hazmat and other materials needed for daily operation and maintenance
  • Provide on-site support at San Clemente Island for periods ranging from 1 day to 2 weeks during large test events or demonstrations
  • Operation and maintenance of MTB system at San Clemente Island
  • Operate and maintain various USVs for the MTB project
  • Provide general tasking support on base at NIWC PAC Bayside including, but not limited to shipping/receiving, warehouse maintenance, and equipment repair as required
  • On-call for emergencies related to small boat operations during test events
