About The Position

Zipline is seeking a Fleet Commander (RPIC) to join their Flight Operations team at their newest Fleet Command facility in South San Francisco. This role is crucial for the development and success of Zipline's rapidly growing operations in the United States. The Fleet Commander will be responsible for safely operating a large fleet of highly autonomous aircraft beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS), ensuring strict adherence to established policies, procedures, and FAA regulations. The duties and responsibilities of this role will evolve as operations expand. Continued employment is contingent upon successful completion of Zipline’s approved flight training program and receiving a Zipline Fleet Commander (RPIC) qualification. The initial training is approximately two weeks and takes place near Charlotte, North Carolina, with compensation and travel expenses covered.

Requirements

  • Prior experience with UAS or traditional flight operations
  • Sound judgment and decision making abilities in a time sensitive, safety critical environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Technical problem solving abilities, innovative, and basic data fluency
  • Self starter attitude, jumps in to help the team at every opportunity
  • Attention to detail, both when performing hands-on work and administrative tasks
  • The ability to work well in a small team environment or independently
  • FAA-issued P107 remote pilot certificate
  • Completion of Zipline Fleet Commander (RPIC) training
  • Valid Driver’s license
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background check
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must be willing to work some nights/weekends.
  • Must be okay with traveling a minimum of 10% of your time (e.g. initial training, new site or product launches, etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Safely execute high volume commercial flights as the responsible person in charge for all uncrewed aircraft arriving, departing, and aloft (this includes preflight planning, pre-shift briefing, ongoing weather and system checks, airspace monitoring, etc.)
  • Ensure broader operational compliance with documented policies, procedures and regulatory permissions.
  • Complete administrative and training tasks, qualifications, and proficiency activities quickly and/or on schedule.
  • Ensure appropriate and timely response to operational downtime, fleet issues, and other abnormalities as observed.
  • Upon request, assist with audits and various aspects of operational oversight, including safety and compliance.

  • Compensation range of $45 - $48/ hour
