About The Position

This position supervises the emergency response team of the University’s Campus Safety & Emergency Management. During times of emergency, this position may be designated authority to supervise additional employees as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree is preferred, particularly with a focus on emergency management, public safety, or a related discipline, combined with knowledge of organizational management.
  • 2+ years of experience
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of integrated security systems, communication, and notification, access control, incident reports.
  • Select, grow, and maintain the University emergency and crisis team; development, and manage performance of employees in accordance with University policies.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary responder, manager, and coordinator of response in the event of an emergency or crisis
  • Serve as the lead liaison between local, state or federal emergency response teams to coordinate drills and exercises and in the event of an actual emergency or crisis
  • Ensure that emergency and crisis management activities are in compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations and laws
  • Advise the Campus Safety Manager regarding policies, procedures, and practices relative to emergency preparedness, crisis management and responses to incidents; make recommendations for preventative measures
  • Develop, revise and maintain comprehensive short-term and long-term emergency and crisis management and response plans for the University including specific plans for buildings and properties at the main campus and all satellite locations
  • Advise departments regarding internal emergency response plans
  • Perform or manage the performance of the technical work relative to the development and implementation of response plans
  • Create business continuity documentation for various emergency and crisis scenarios
  • Design, coordinate and facilitate exercises and drills to simulate, test and assess response activity and notifications in various emergency and crisis scenarios; ensure the University’s compliance with standard operating procedures and applicable laws that govern such activities
  • Create and maintain reports of incidents, trainings, simulation exercises, inventory of supplies and equipment, and any other data as mandated by University officials and local, state or federal guidelines and/or legislation
  • Coordinate correspondence and communication with the University community and local, state, or federal authorities regarding emergency and crisis information
  • Maintain data and metrics; provide appropriate information in support of compliance and audits
  • Develop, maintain and update resource tracking and mobilization process in accordance with current National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) guidelines and procedures
  • Evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of emergency plans and operations
  • Establish standard operating procedures and guidelines and facilitate campus-wide compliance
  • Influence and engage the community in emergency preparedness education, activities and initiatives
  • Represent the University at meetings and conferences regarding emergency and crisis management, Homeland Security and/or other relative subjects
  • Maintain records of team credentials and renewal dates
  • Knowledge of emergency response procedures, hazardous materials management and ability to apply that knowledge in various emergency and crisis scenarios
  • Ability to apply knowledge of the emergency and crisis management and applicable laws
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and/or motivate a diverse population of people while encouraging and maintain an atmosphere of professionalism, inclusion, and positivity
  • Ability to maintain leadership, professionalism, and composure in stressful situations
  • Ability to develop departmental operating procedures and budget
