About The Position

At SCG Fields, we build championship fields for championship teams. As the Fleet & Asset Manager, you will play a critical leadership role in ensuring our fleet, heavy equipment, trailers, tools, and construction assets are safe, compliant, properly maintained, and available to support field operations nationwide. This position is responsible for developing and managing a best-in-class fleet and asset management program that maximizes equipment utilization, minimizes downtime, improves operational efficiency, and supports the continued growth of SCG Fields. This role extends beyond traditional fleet management. We are seeking an operational leader who enjoys building processes, leveraging technology, improving systems, and driving continuous improvement. The ideal candidate is proactive rather than reactive, organized, data-driven, and passionate about creating scalable solutions that help construction teams succeed.

Requirements

  • Five (5) or more years of experience managing heavy equipment, fleet operations, construction equipment, or rental operations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of preventative maintenance programs.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced construction environment.
  • Experience with fleet management software.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with project teams.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to inspect equipment in shop and field environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Heavy equipment maintenance experience.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations and fleet compliance.
  • Experience utilizing GPS tracking, telematics, and fleet analytics.
  • Experience implementing fleet management systems.
  • Familiarity with RFID, barcode, GPS, or other asset tracking technologies.
  • CDL and/or ASE certifications.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Company's fleet of construction equipment, company vehicles, trailers, attachments, tools, and portable assets by overseeing the location, status, and availability of all fleet assets across active project sites.
  • Coordinate equipment transportation, transfers, and logistics between jobs.
  • Schedule equipment to maximize utilization while meeting project schedules.
  • Maintain complete inventory records and asset assignments.
  • Track equipment utilization, engine hours, mileage, fuel consumption, and operating performance.
  • Manage inventory and accountability of attachments, specialty tools, lasers, GPS equipment, and precision surveying instruments.
  • Maintain ownership records, registrations, warranties, insurance documentation, titles, and equipment files.
  • Coordinate rental equipment and ensuring timely returns.
  • Develop asset tracking procedures that improve accountability and reduce equipment loss.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve preventative maintenance programs.
  • Schedule inspections, routine maintenance, repairs, and warranty work.
  • Maintain complete maintenance histories and service records.
  • Monitor equipment reliability, repair frequency, and lifecycle costs.
  • Coordinate emergency repairs to minimize downtime.
  • Develop replacement schedules and recommend equipment purchases or disposals based on lifecycle analysis.
  • Work proactively to identify equipment concerns before they impact field operations.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, DOT, OSHA, and company safety requirements.
  • Maintain registrations, licensing, insurance, permits, and regulatory documentation.
  • Coordinate required safety inspections and equipment readiness.
  • Maintain driver qualification files and operator certifications.
  • Manage accident reporting and fleet documentation.
  • Support company-wide initiatives that promote safe equipment operation and accountability.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers, Construction Managers, Superintendents, and Operations leadership by prioritizing equipment needs across multiple active projects.
  • Ensure equipment availability while minimizing project delays.
  • Coordinate fleet logistics with field leadership.
  • Support emergency equipment requests.
  • Assist with long-term fleet planning aligned with operational growth.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with equipment dealers, mechanics, rental providers, transportation companies, fuel vendors, and parts suppliers.
  • Negotiate pricing, service agreements, and vendor contracts.
  • Review invoices for accuracy and cost control.
  • Manage warranty claims and service agreements.
  • Assist with fleet purchasing decisions and capital equipment planning.
  • Support annual operating and capital budgets related to fleet operations.
  • Administer fleet management software, GPS tracking, telematics, and asset management systems.
  • Develop reports measuring fleet utilization, maintenance compliance, equipment uptime, operating costs, fuel usage, and downtime.
  • Analyze trends and recommend operational improvements.
  • Identify opportunities to automate workflows and improve data accuracy.
  • Champion new technologies that improve fleet efficiency, asset accountability, and operational performance.
  • Other duties as assigned.
