About The Position

The Flavorist is responsible for creating, developing, and optimizing liquid food and beverage flavor systems for both internal and external customers. This role works directly with clients to understand their needs, develop customized flavor solutions, and deliver products that align with market trends, regulatory requirements, and business objectives. Combining scientific expertise, creativity, and sensory evaluation skills, the Flavorist applies knowledge of chemistry, flavor ingredients, and manufacturing processes to develop innovative and commercially viable flavor profiles. This position plays a key role in supporting new product development, product optimization, and customer-driven projects. The Flavorist collaborates closely with the Flavor, Beverage, Production, Quality, Regulatory, and Sales teams to ensure successful project execution, product performance, and customer satisfaction. The role is responsible for managing multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high standards of quality, regulatory compliance, and technical excellence.

Requirements

  • College education is preferred in a related field
  • Strong math and chemistry skills
  • Certified member of the Society of Flavor Chemists preferred
  • Regulatory knowledge related to 21CFR, FDA, USDA, TTB, and specialty food chains
  • Flavor compounding experience
  • Flavor Manufacturing experience
  • Basic aroma chemical experience
  • Understands GC/Mass Spec, HPLC, FID and associated reports
  • Perform routine work assignments and following directions with moderate supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to set priorities and meet deadlines on concurrent projects in a fast-paced, occasionally stressful environment
  • Must pass Flavorman’s normal new employee background check
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong Communication Skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Understand flavor materials’ functionality, organoleptic qualities, and interactions
  • Ability to work within proper GMP, safety, allergen, SOP, SQF, HACCP and Kosher guidelines
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and safety

Responsibilities

  • Assist chief flavorist in developing and modifying flavor formulations
  • Work directly with customers to develop flavors according to customer needs
  • Prepare flavor samples and compounds for evaluation and testing
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and maintain accurate records of formulations and results
  • Participate in sensory evaluations, taste panels, and aroma assessments
  • Weigh, blend, and compound flavor ingredients according to established procedures
  • Maintain laboratory equipment, supplies, and ingredient inventories
  • Support product matching, flavor improvement, and customer-driven projects
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory standards
  • Analyze data and prepare reports on flavor performance and test results
  • Stay informed about flavor industry trends, ingredients, and technologies
  • Scale up assistance for production
  • Train staff to enhance product and flavor knowledge
