About The Position

Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation is hiring a Vice President in its Legal Department for the Trade Transaction Management group. The role primarily supports the bank’s fixed income trading and derivatives businesses. The negotiator drafts, reviews, and negotiates legal trading documentation, with a particular focus on repurchase agreements and documentation required for mandated sponsor clearing. The role also involves advising the business on complex documentation issues and coordinating with internal stakeholders on terms and escalations.

Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant experience, with expertise in Repurchase Agreements and related documentation.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to explain complex terms or ideas to internal stakeholders clearly and effectively.
• Ability to work closely and collaboratively with other departments.
• Bachelor’s degree required.

Nice To Haves

• Law degree preferred.

Responsibilities

• Draft, review, and negotiate legal trading documentation, including Master Repurchase Agreements, Master Securities Lending Agreements, Master Securities Forward Transaction Agreements, global equivalents, and related ancillary documentation.
• Focus on repurchase agreements, including documentation required for mandated sponsor clearing.
• Liaise with sales and trading, credit, risk, management, and operations regarding documentation terms and escalations.
• Advise the business on complex issues related to relevant documentation.
