About The Position

The City of Orrville is seeking applicants for five positions: Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I, Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II, Lineworker I, Lineworker II, and Utility Worker — Power Plant. These are Civil Service positions filled by application and written exam.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.
Valid Ohio driver’s license.
Class I Wastewater Operator’s Certificate issued by the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) (for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator I).
Considerable experience in wastewater treatment operations (for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II).
Class II Wastewater Operator’s Certificate issued by the Ohio EPA (for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator II).
Specialized powerline training and/or experience in line work that includes verifiable, certified training and experience in climbing (for Lineworker I).
Commercial driver’s license (CDL) or be eligible to get a CDL (for Lineworker I).
At least two years of experience as a Lineworker I or Lineworker C (for Lineworker II).
Valid Ohio driver’s license and CDL (for Lineworker II).
Specialized vocational training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities for the role (preferred for Utility Worker — Power Plant).
Some knowledge of mechanical, electrical or electronic systems (preferred for Utility Worker — Power Plant).
Must be a United States Citizen or have legally declared their intentions of becoming a United States Citizen (for Utility Worker — Power Plant).
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
Must be drug free.

Responsibilities

Monitor wastewater processes via electronic and computer controls and meters.
Determine flow into and within plant.
Take samples, perform basic lab tests and make adjustments as necessary.
Take readings and make operational checks on equipment and controls.
Maintain equipment.
Keep records and reports.
Perform preventative and corrective maintenance.
Lubricate equipment, clean and paint facilities.
Use skilled laboratory work in collecting samples, analyzing chemical and biological components using sophisticated testing equipment, recording and reporting findings.
Operate wastewater treatment plant equipment and facilities on an assigned shift.
Serve as the lead person in the lab.
Perform other tasks related to the treatment of wastewater.
Serve as a ground person.
Prepare material for higher level lineworkers.
Observe work activities around energized circuits for hazards.
Operate assigned equipment.
Work on dead or low voltage circuits.
Stock line trucks with necessary supplies and equipment.
Trim trees.
Attend training sessions to prepare for advancement.
Handle customer service, line outages and emergency problems on secondary lines up to 600 volts with minor supervision.
Repair, test and install three-phase electric meters independently without close supervision.
Train new employees and subordinates.
Perform semi-skilled work in the maintenance and operation of high-pressure steam boilers, turbines, fuel and ash systems and other equipment in an electrical power generation plant.
