The Fitter position involves identifying items on a bill of materials listed on a sketch, pulling those items, verifying they match the sketch, and fabricating them according to the Job Instruction Sheet and Weld Procedure Sheet. This role requires a strong understanding of safety and environmental guidelines, and collaboration with other departments like Cutting operations and bay pulling to ensure materials are properly staged for fabrication. The Fitter will lay out, position, align, and fit components together, and then bolt, clamp, and weld them. Responsibilities also include cleaning and degreasing weld joints, removing excess weld material, preheating workpieces, cutting metal plates or structural shapes, and examining welds for quality. Additionally, the Fitter will be responsible for loading, transporting, and unloading materials, tools, equipment, and supplies, as well as performing minor maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
