About The Position
Ohmstede Ltd is seeking a Fitter to assemble and tack shell and tube heat exchanger components for subsequent welding. This role requires the ability to interpret fabrication drawings, accurately measure, lay out, and prepare all welded connections on the heat exchanger. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of metal fabrication practices, including the effects of heat, shrinkage, and growth during the welding process. The position involves using various tools such as oxy/acetylene torches, plasma cutters, arc gouging equipment, and grinders, and will utilize SMAW and GTAW welding processes.
Requirements
- H.S. diploma or equivalent; or equivalent experience, knowledge of fitting/welding procedures.
- Must read and write English language in order to read weld procedures and fabrication drawings and requirements.
- Must be able to pass ASME welding test.
- Understanding and comprehension of the application of algebra and geometry.
Nice To Haves
- Heat Exchanger job shop or field fabrication experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Lay-out, fit-up, burn, arc gouge, plasma cut, grind and weld as necessary to form components to meet required finish dimensions.
- Adjust length based on material requirements.
- Prepare cutouts as necessary to meet drawing weld bevel requirements and standards.
- Grind weld material left by knock-offs as required to clean the part to standards.
- Set up and perform jobs based on engineering drawings, shop practices, and procedures.
- Perform internal quality check using appropriate measuring gauges and experience.
- Perform assigned tasks in a safe manner, following EHS requirements relating to PPE and Safe Working Practices.
