Assists Fitters and Welders in fitting and welding tasks such as positioning and aligning structural metal components in the fabrication of steel structures. Requirements

• Follow specific directions
• Perform a variety of duties which may often change
• Work within standards of accuracy
• Repeat tasks of short duration according to a set procedure
• Evaluate information using measurable standards
• Ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds
• Good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information

• High school diploma preferred

Responsibilities

• Operate punches, grinders, drills, saws, oxy-fuel torches, and other basic equipment and hand tools
• Clean work area and restock supplies and materials as necessary
• May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of materials and work pieces during installation
• May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of journeyman's tools and equipment
• Perform other routine duties as directed by experienced craft person
• Manually move, lift, and transfer material and safely operate overhead cranes
• Travel as required
• Other duties which may be assigned as needed
