About The Position

Cornerstone Building Brands is seeking a Fitter/Welder for their 2nd shift. The role requires competence in welding and fitting skills, including special welding certifications for pipe, tube, and CJP scenarios. The Fitter/Welder will be responsible for fitting up various structural components according to specifications, adhering to all safety rules, and interpreting blueprints and sketches. This position involves measuring, marking, locating, and joining components, using welding and cutting equipment, and ensuring parts are aligned and prepared as required. The role also includes identifying parts with metal tags, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to continuous improvement practices. The base pay starts at $21.50 per hour plus a $1.00 shift differential for the 2nd shift, which begins at 6:00 PM.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • A minimum of one (1) year experience welding and fitting in a production environment or valid welding certification
  • Ability to read blueprints and drawings
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CWB and AWS welding certification in accordance with Cornerstone Building Brands welding procedures
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds on a continual basis above shoulder height and below the waist

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with forklift and/or overhead crane operation a plus

Responsibilities

  • Competent in welding and fitting skills, encompassing all special welding certifications for pipe, tube, CJP scenarios etc.
  • Fit up all types of rigid frame columns, rafters, and beam canopies according to specifications.
  • Know and understand all safety rules and precautions necessary for working in and about a manufacturing environment.
  • Achieve and maintain AWS and CWB certifications.
  • Check work assignments and interpret blueprints and/or sketches to determine parts required.
  • Measure, mark, count, and locate components on/in an assembly.
  • Advise Team Leader of any discrepancies in and/or shortages of required parts.
  • Position sub-assemblies on parts using clamping devices and material handling equipment as required.
  • Use necessary tools, measuring devices, templates to join up parts in accordance with blueprints and specifications maintaining allowable tolerances.
  • Use welding, flame cutting, flame-heating, arc gouging, or mechanical equipment to tack and/or weld components in place.
  • Align parts, and bevel or cut flanges, webs, stiffeners as required.
  • Install metal tags to identify parts and use assigned personal identification stamp in designated area when operation is completed.
  • Keep numerical and alphabetical sequences correct.
  • Maintain continuous improvement practices in work area.
  • May be assigned other projects or duties as designated by Team Leader.
