About The Position

Under the guidance of the Manager, Fitness Programs, the Fitness Training Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Student Recreation Center’s (SRC) fitness training operations, including personal training and the boxing training program, supervising student assistant employees and part-time personal trainers, managing client intake and trainer-client assignments, ensuring high-quality service delivery, supporting member satisfaction, and providing frontline supervision that directly advances program goals.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university preferably with a major in sports management, recreation administration, physical education, kinesiology/exercise science, business administration, or a related field.
  • Equivalent to two years of professional-level experience in a job-related field preferably managing fitness/wellness programs during which time the applicant has acquired and/or demonstrated the ability to perform the essential duties of the position.
  • Must possess a current nationally recognized or personal training certification (AFAA, ISSA, ACE, NASM, NSCA or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of administration, program design, personnel and organizational management
  • Knowledge of fitness assessment, exercise prescription, personal training principles, and fitness program development
  • Knowledge of risk management, emergency response procedures, and safety practices applicable to recreation and fitness environments
  • General knowledge of managing critical situations including but not limited to mandated reporting
  • Computer hardware/software operation
  • Effective marketing strategies
  • Ability to interpret and apply university, SRC and USU rules, regulations, policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Train, and supervise the work of approximately six (6) part-time student assistant employees and approximately nine (9) part-time personal trainers, including monitoring performance; generating performance evaluations; and administering disciplinary action as needed.
  • Perform various administrative tasks, including but not limited to reviewing and approving timesheets, scheduling employees, managing shift coverage, and ensuring adherence to workplace policies.
  • Develop, maintain, and update onboarding and training materials, personal training manuals, employee manuals, standard operating procedures, and other reference resources; recommend revisions and enhancements to the Manager as needed.
  • Oversee day-to-day fitness training operations, including personal training and boxing training program, client intake, trainer-client assignments, exercise prescription, and assessments, while evaluating program effectiveness and participant satisfaction.
  • Monitor and maintain facility, equipment, and supply readiness by tracking inventory, identifying maintenance and custodial needs, recommending repairs or replacements, coordinating resolutions with appropriate departments, and submitting purchase requests as needed.
  • Assist the Manager in developing and implementing the personal training and boxing fitness programs; train employees to ensure safe and effective delivery; provide recommendations for program enhancements.
  • Monitor employees’ customer service delivery and address member concerns related to personal training services and the boxing training program; identify recurring issues, recommend operational improvements, and escalate unresolved matters to the Manager as needed.
  • Assist the Manager in ensuring daily compliance with safety policies, procedures, and facility and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Conduct and assist in coordinating monthly and semesterly staff training activities on the areas of customer service, operational procedures, conflict resolution, justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI); and ensures staff meet minimum qualifications, certifications and standards required by individual job assignments.
  • Research, recommend, and implement digital platforms/software, equipment, trainings, and other supplies needed to support programs and services.
  • Assist the Manager in developing and implementing the personal training and boxing training program that reflects industry trends, member interest, and participation data, ensuring offerings are inclusive and accessible.
  • Assist the Manager in ensuring incident and accident reporting processes, including participant accident reports, employee injury reports, supervisor logs, and safety suggestions are managed and escalated accordingly; analyze trends, address recurring issues, and implement corrective measures to enhance program and facility safety.
  • Collect, analyze, and report program performance metrics (participation, retention, revenue, and satisfaction); report findings to the Manager.
  • Work, in conjunction with other USU/SRC departments to execute approved operations and procedures to support programs.
  • Maintain required certifications and training for employees and schedule recertification sessions as needed.
  • Coordinate staffing requests for outreach, tabling, and promotional initiatives.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with students, faculty, staff and community members to promote engagement and support student well-being.
  • Actively participate on a variety of Student Recreation Center, University Student Union and University committees as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
