About The Position

The Fitness Facilitator/Lifeguard is responsible for the overall operation and appearance of the Fitness Center within the Spa and Fitness Department at Mandarin Oriental, New York. This role involves maintaining high standards of service, cleanliness, and safety in all fitness and pool areas, adhering to company policies and health regulations.

Requirements

  • Must possess a good written and verbal command in the English Language.
  • Must have a current Lifeguard Certification and keep certification current.
  • Must have a yearly CPR for the Professional Rescuer Certification including AED Defibrillation Training.
  • Must have a current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certification and keep current.
  • Expiration periods and recertification determined by New York City and State Law.

Responsibilities

  • Keep work area and public areas clean and organized at all times.
  • Ensure a high standard of service is maintained throughout the fitness center and spa.
  • Follow all Standards and Procedures regarding maintenance, cleanliness, and care of the spa public and private space.
  • Follow all checklists set by spa management for business operation and cleanliness.
  • Follow all FLHSS guidelines and checklists pertaining to business operation and health and safety.
  • Follow all pool chemical guidelines and checklists set by spa management for business operation and cleanliness.
  • Assist in the operations of all spa & fitness departments as required, including Front Desk consultations, technological advances, guest tours, and facility orientations.
  • Maintain Locker Facilities, Fitness Facilities, and Spa Retail Sales.
  • Perform Preparation (prep) Room Maintenance and Organization.
  • Perform Certified Pool Operator certification and associated responsibilities for all pools.
  • Act as the Professional Rescuer in the event of an emergency.
  • Monitor and maintain the chemical levels in the pool and vitality pools.
  • Handle pool chemicals in a safe manner according to MSDS sheets.
  • Clean the pool and vitality pools.
  • Conduct pump room walkthroughs and record data.
  • Report dysfunctional equipment to Spa Management and utilize the Hotel Service Optimization System (HotSOS).
  • Maintain inventory of supplies for the operations of the fitness center and spa on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Maintain a high standard of appearance and personal hygiene.
  • Assist in all areas of fitness / spa as and when necessary.
  • Bring and retrieve operational items from hotel rooms and different hotel floors.
  • Work in guest rooms when requested.
  • Be adaptable and accountable for all actions.
  • Perform as a professional with a friendly business attitude.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of the entire fitness center/spa, including changing rooms, locker rooms, bathrooms, toilets, showers, heated facilities, relaxation areas, fitness center, pool, and treatment suites.
  • Assist in receiving and transporting spa deliveries and stocking spa/fitness items.
  • Fold linen and remove soiled linen throughout the day.
  • Ensure locker rooms are stocked with clean linen and robes and remove soiled linens.
  • Transport linen bins and received shipments from the laundry company.
  • Transport dirty linen to appropriate areas.
  • Ensure all guest amenities, bathrooms amenities, and shower amenities are clean and stocked.
  • Ensure all beverage and food amenities are stocked.
  • Assist with cleaning of the pool area throughout the day.
  • Receive training to ensure all relevant legislation pertaining to Health and Safety at work Law and Health and Hygiene standards are implemented and monitored within the spa.
  • Show courtesy to guests and all members of staff at all times.
  • Follow all Safe, Sound, and Sustainable guidelines.
  • Maintain all spa treatment rooms/suites/prep room to Health and Safety standards.
  • Adhere to New York State and City Health Department laws.
  • Follow all FLHSS standards and guidelines.
  • Test swimming pool and vitality pool water chemistry.
  • Submit water samples for health department testing.
  • Test and maintain pool chemical levels.
  • Test and service safety equipment.
  • Administer first aid, CPR, and AED when necessary.
  • Comply with health and safety codes.
