About The Position

The Fitness Center Manager is responsible for the overall operation, performance, and participant experience of the Team Member fitness facility and wellness program. This role oversees staff, programming, equipment maintenance, vendor relationships, and participation growth while ensuring compliance with safety and health standards. The Fitness Center Manager partners with organizational leadership to promote Team Member health and well-being through innovative fitness and wellness initiatives.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certification required.
  • Nationally recognized fitness certification (NASM, ACE, ACSM, or equivalent) required.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Knowledge of fitness programming, exercise equipment, wellness initiatives, and safety standards.
  • Customer service, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Budgeting, operational management, and program administration knowledge.
  • Proficiency with scheduling, participation management, wellness engagement, POS, and CRM systems.
  • Ability to analyze participation data and prepare reports to support business decisions and program effectiveness.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Ability to follow written or verbal instructions.
  • Ability to concentrate, think, learn, and make sound decisions.
  • Ability to hear, see, sit, stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Management, Business Administration, Psychology, or a related field preferred.
  • Five (5) years or more of experience in fitness center operations, wellness program administration, or fitness management; corporate or on-site fitness experience preferred.
  • Bilingual Spanish skills are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily fitness center operations, including scheduling, cleanliness, facility appearance, and equipment readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety, health, and emergency procedures, including OSHA and ADA standards.
  • Monitor budget performance, expenses, and revenue or cost-center goals.
  • Oversee maintenance, inspection, and repair of fitness equipment and manage vendor relationships for service agreements and upgrades.
  • Develop and implement fitness programs, group exercise classes, and wellness initiatives aligned with participant needs and organizational objectives.
  • Design and promote wellness challenges, incentive-based programs, and employee engagement initiatives.
  • Coordinate wellness events, health screenings, educational workshops, and awareness campaigns.
  • Track, analyze, and report participation, engagement, and program outcomes to support continuous improvement and demonstrate program effectiveness.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service and resolve participant concerns and conflicts.
  • Support participation growth, retention, and engagement initiatives.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for the fitness and wellness program and represent the program in cross-functional meetings and communications.
  • Recruit, hire, train, supervise, and develop fitness staff, including fitness specialists and instructors.
  • Develop staff schedules and ensure adequate staffing coverage across operating hours.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching, feedback, and professional development opportunities.
  • Foster a positive, collaborative, and service-focused team environment.
