About The Position

Under the direction and supervision of the Dean of Student Affairs, this position is responsible for planning recreational and sports activities for college students, coordinating a student leadership development program, providing reliable and safe transportation for student activities and events, and overseeing the daily management of the Fitness Center, including operating hours, drop-in schedule for IAIA staff, faculty & students. This position oversees all campus fitness programs and works with the Facilities Department to maintain the upkeep of the Fitness Center and gymnasium. This position supports the mission of the Institute and serves on institutional committees as needed.

  • Ability to manage Fitness Center budget.
  • Willingness to understand and demonstrate respect and sensitivity to American Indian Cultures and Alaskan Native Cultures is essential.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, begin projects and complete projects independently in a timely manner.
  • Ability to complete other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Planning recreational and sports programs for students in collaboration with the Student Affairs division.
  • Coordinating various campus activities & events.
  • Hiring, overseeing, directing & supervising the Recreation Assistant and Work-Study Students.
  • Developing, planning, coordinating and implementing health/wellness/fitness activities for students, faculty & staff.
  • Coordinating and planning activities with local colleges, universities, and tribal colleges.
  • Developing and implementing student leadership development programs.
  • Maintaining records, funds, and supplies utilized in operating the Fitness Center and recreational activities.
  • Maintaining the sports and recreation equipment in a clean, safe and good working condition.
  • Producing a monthly calendar of student recreation and sports activities and events, and coordinating activities with IAIA staff as needed.
  • Supervising the Recreation Assistant and work study students.
  • Updating Student Activities webpage and social media platforms.
  • Providing reliable and safe transportation for student activities and events.
  • Maintaining a courteous, professional and respectful relationship with students.
  • Coordinating student participation at the annual AIHEC Student Conference.
  • Other duties as assigned.
