About The Position

ICF is seeking an On-Call Fisheries Biologist based in Richmond, CA. This role involves assisting with field sampling and collection of water quality, phytoplankton, zooplankton, and larval fish in the upper San Francisco Estuary and inland rivers. Responsibilities may also include laboratory work such as sorting and identifying plankton, and deploying/retrieving telemetry receivers from boats. Work assignments can include up to 12-hour days and up to 40-hour weeks, with occasional night and weekend shifts. Travel up to 5 days per week may be required. On-Call employees are scheduled for work as it becomes available and are free to accept or refuse hours. They may work concurrent projects outside of ICF as long as there is no conflict of interest.

Requirements

  • B.S. in Biology or related field, or 2 years of field biology experience
  • Valid driver's license, ability to pass an MVR check, and reliable vehicle.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including ability to prepare and complete field data forms.
  • Experience in field identification of common fish species in the San Francisco Estuary and/or inland rivers and streams.
  • Knowledge of and experience with sampling methods for fish, plankton, and water quality monitoring in freshwater and/or estuarine environments.
  • Solid field skills, including the ability to work outdoors for weeks at a time and spend long hours on boats.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to use microscopes for plankton and fish identification from the San Francisco Estuary
  • Experience operating small (15-25’) boats
  • Experience with acoustic telemetry projects
  • Experience in fish relocation activities
  • Experience with construction monitoring for biological resources
  • Motorboat operator training certificate (MOCC/MOTC)

Responsibilities
