About The Position

Entarian is looking for a Fisheries Biologist to support the Southeast Fisheries Science Center's (SEFSC) Fisheries Statistics Division (FSD). This role involves providing data management support, including the distribution, reception, and quality control of commercial fisherman's logbooks submitted to the SEFSC. The position requires annual distribution of logbooks, processing of incoming logbooks, monitoring a phone line for permit holder inquiries, and data entry and validation of various logbook and dealer reporting forms. The biologist will also participate in outreach events to explain the logbook program to the public. Work will be based on-site at NOAA's SEFSC in Miami, FL.

Requirements

High School, plus 3 years relevant experience or Bachelors degree in Marine Science or related studies
Computer literate and experienced with common word processing, database, statistical, and graphics programs
Detail-oriented
Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident who has lived in the United States at least 3 out of the last 5 years and be able to pass a background investigation to obtain a security badge to access applicable government facilities and systems

Experience collecting catch and effort information from commercial fisheries

Responsibilities

Annually distribute logbooks via US mail to permit holders
Travel locally via GOV to the post office to pick up incoming logbooks
Process incoming logbooks: stamp as received, organize the forms and assign schedule numbers
Monitor a phone line each business day that is used for permit holders who have questions about the logbook process. The contractor shall respond when appropriate or forward the question to upper level staff
Mail wreckfish logbook and dealer reporting forms to permit holders as applicable
Data entry of various logbook and dealer reporting forms
Validation of various logbook and dealer reporting forms
Monitor incoming calls
Distribution of Wreckfish logbooks and dealer reporting forms to permit holders
Data entry of Wreckfish logbooks and dealer reporting forms
Participate in SEFSC-sponsored or participating outreach events such as Open Houses, Youth/Career Fairs, etc. in order to explain logbook program goals and methods to the public
