About The Position

Join our team at the Capital and Asset Management Program (CAMP), where we provide essential engineering, construction, and maintenance services to support the agency’s facilities, infrastructure, and ecosystems. With your expertise in operating heavy machinery, you will lead a skilled crew in the transportation and operation of heavy equipment and supervise projects such as intake sediment removal, transportation of live fish, demolition of facilities and structures, installation of underground utility conduit, and domestic and production pipeline repairs.

Requirements

Valid, current Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) at the time of application.
Two (2) years of experience as a Construction and Maintenance Project Lead OR Completion of a recognized apprenticeship in a skilled trade AND Two (2) years of professional work experience in a skilled trade OR Four (4) years of professional work experience in a skilled trade.
Five (5) years of professional experience operating heavy machinery, such as excavators, loaders, and dozers.
Ability to identify and schedule phases of construction and coordinate staffing, supplies, and equipment to successfully complete projects.
Ability to prepare accurate and concise expense reports.
Basic computer skills, including experience using Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Knowledge of construction methods, operating costs, and the capabilities and limitations of construction equipment and materials.
Knowledge of contractual requirements, including specifications and fiscal procedures.
Knowledge of engineering principles and their application to construction.
Ability to read and interpret construction plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, and shop drawings.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a current Medical Examiner’s Certificate.

Responsibilities

Supervise a team of journey-level workers in the transportation and operation of heavy equipment through scheduling, directing, coordinating, and supervising in the various phases of construction.
Independently prepare drawings, sketches, and as-built diagrams to support project implementation and communicate technical instructions to staff.
Participate in conceptual and 30-60-90 drawing reviews, providing expertise to identify and mitigate issues of functionality or feasibility.
Analyze project specifications to determine work sequencing, staffing needs, material requirements, and delivery schedules.
Identify materials and services that require purchasing contracts and develop specifications for the bidding process, including detailed cost estimates.
Conduct onsite inspections of components, equipment, and fixtures to determine need for maintenance or repair.
Supervise and mentor a team of technical- and professional-level staff, in order to support an effective and motivated team.
Set goals and objectives, create strategies to implement, and develop performance measures and standards to ensure individual and program performance objectives are met.
Develop and implement staff training and development plans, manage personnel issues, and monitor/inspect work in progress.
Schedule fish transport activities at local, state, tribal, and federal hatcheries.
Operate water tankers up to 6000 gallons to safely transport live fish statewide.
Ensure proper disinfection of tankers following fish transfers to prevent the spread of fish diseases and aquatic invasive species (AIS).
Proficiently follow species-specific guidelines for safe fish loading, hauling, and transport.
Install and monitor liquid oxygen tanks and perform water quality tests for maintaining dissolved oxygen levels.
Inspect, operate, and transport all types of heavy earthmoving equipment in the execution of all phases of construction, as it relates to hatchery maintenance, installation, and repair tasks.
Clear, remove, and transport mud and debris from on-site hatchery abatement ponds, intake structures, demolition projects, and general construction tasks using excavators, boom trucks, backhoes, and dump trucks.
Work around, expose, and install sensitive, buried utilities and alarm lines using backhoes and track excavators.
Install, disassemble, and replace various plumbing components (such as pipes, valves, gates, couplers, and manifolds).
Inspect supply lines, fixtures, and valves to determine cause of failures and recommend maintenance and repair actions.
