About The Position

The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual as a Construction and Maintenance Project Supervisor at Washington State Penitentiary (WSP). This recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies. The Washington State Penitentiary operates 24-hours a day, 7-days a week. The Department consists of the Office of the Secretary, Prisons Division, Community Corrections Division, Administrative Services Division, Health Services Division, Communications Department and Risk Management Department. The Washington State Penitentiary is comprised of 4 Close Custody Units, 3 Special Housing Units, 2 Intensive Management Units, 3 Medium Unit, 2 Minimum Housing Units and a Hospital. In all, WSP houses approximately 2,000 offenders and employs approximately 1,100 staff.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Journey level work in two (2) skilled trades and two (2) years’ of applicable work experience.
  • OR Two (2) years as a Construction and Maintenance Project Lead
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years’ experience in: Installation of detention overhead security door devices, gate closers and new security doors,
  • Fabrication and maintenance of metal equipment and machinery
  • Lock/mechanical locking device installation, repair, and fabrication.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Fix-it Shop staff and inmates in the installation and maintenance of the facilities mechanical systems in a workman-like manner.
  • Provide first level supervision and leadership to the Locksmith Shop Supervisor.
  • Plans, coordinates and organizes maintenance and construction projects.
  • Prepare reports, schedule maintenance, assists in developing projects including material estimates, scopes of work, equipment, and manpower needs.
  • Other duties as directed by the Facility Manager or Plant Manager
