About The Position

This position is open to ALL APPLICANTS. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Sport Fish is recruiting for a Fish and Wildlife Technician 2 located in Kodiak, Alaska! This position will collect biological and genetic data from Chinook salmon caught by sport anglers out of the port of Kodiak. The incumbent will work independently, must be able to identify or learn to identify salmon species, and must have a positive attitude when working with the public. The mission of the Division of Sport Fish is to protect, maintain, and improve Alaska’s sport fisheries. The incumbent collects fisheries’ dependent data that is used by State, national, and international fisheries management organizations to ensure Alaska’s groundfish are managed sustainably. Requirements

  • High school graduation or the equivalent.
  • Three months as an entry level fish and wildlife technician or aide.
  • Six months of work experience involving fish, wildlife, outdoor manual labor, or in a laboratory.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, bend over, and use knives and forceps.
  • Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Ability to stay organized.
  • First aid/CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

  • Positive attitude when working with the public.
  • Experience sampling animals or plants in the field.
  • Experience using identification guides or dichotomous keys.

Responsibilities

  • Collect biological and genetic data from Chinook salmon caught by sport anglers out of the port of Kodiak.

  • Compile, check, and report sampling data.
