About The Position

Performs a wide variety of tasks to support department fiscal operations; performs other duties as assigned. The hiring salary for this position is $55,910 - $61,693 annually; full salary range for this position is $55,910 - $96,179 annually.

Requirements

  • Ability to gain thorough knowledge of St. Mary’s County Government and Sheriff’s Office policies and procedures.
  • Ability to act as a representative of St. Mary’s County Government and St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office to the public.
  • Knowledge of fundamental accounting principles.
  • Advanced knowledge and practical application of Excel Software and other MS Office Product Software.
  • Ability to operate office equipment – copier, multiple phone lines.
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask.
  • Ability to follow through with assigned tasks.
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Ability to operate relevant computer systems, including hardware and software, and simple office machines.
  • Must successfully pass background investigation with favorable results.
  • Must pass a pre-employment drug test.

Responsibilities

  • May provide fiscal support through the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office to agency personnel, in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • May process travel/training and expense reimbursement requests, prepare travel expense reconciliation sheets, maintain travel budget spreadsheets, and assist personnel in making travel reservations.
  • May post time and leave to the master payroll schedule and/or proof time and payroll forms and reports.
  • May review journals and complex subsidy accounts, and monitor bank receipts and receivables.
  • May assist with planning, forecasting, formulating, and overseeing budgets while assessing current and anticipated needs and costs and consulting with office staff on availability of funds.
  • May prepare cash receipts.
  • May prepare disbursements.
  • May reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • May research and use financial information to prepare various monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial reports for county, state and federal government agencies.
  • May assist in preparation of budget requests and compute salary and other accounting information.
  • May prepare files, copy and scan various fiscal documentation.
  • May research and complete financial forms, i.e. Journal Entry, Budget Amendment, and Charts.
  • May assist in the preparation of grant proposals, modifications, renewals, reports, and special requests.
  • May assist in the preparation of Procurement requests and transactions.
  • May generate data for preparation of trial balances, general ledgers and maintain various double entry records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
