About The Position

The Washington State Department of Corrections is seeking a highly skilled and qualified numbers guru to join the Business Services Payroll team as a Fiscal Analyst 1 (FA1). The goal of this position is to support the Department’s goals and objectives by developing systems and processes that ensure that every paycheck created will be treated as if it were their own and that the fiscal responsibilities to the State of Washington are met with the highest level of integrity. As a Fiscal Analyst 1 (FA1), you will support the four main strategic goals of the agency including maintaining core correctional operations, focusing on the workforce, increasing successful reentry of incarcerated individuals to communities, and Improve business practices and performance. Core correctional operations are maintained through accurate payroll, ensuring that the fiscal needs of department staff are met. You will be responsible for maintaining a positive and respectful workplace climate within business services and for ethical, fair and sound employee conduct. The goal is to support a work environment that promotes successful, satisfied, healthy and productive employees. DOC staff contribute to successful reentry by modeling professional and ethical behavior through respectful interactions with others. The candidate of choice will contribute to incarcerated individuals reentry by ensuring accurate and timely payroll for department staff who support this endeavor. This position is responsible for effective, accurate and timely management of payroll and benefits administration, also being responsible for effective stewardship of agency resources, being transparent and accountable in the performance of its duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of Accounting 201 from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent within the six months from date of hire

Nice To Haves

  • One year of relevant experience
  • Relevant experience is defined as Fiscal Technician 2 or above level work
  • A business focused Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the US Department of Education and the Council of Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent, with minimum 20 accounting credits to include Accounting 201, 202, 203 and Governmental Accounting

Responsibilities

  • Performing payroll processing/operations duties in accordance with RCW, WAC, CBA, SAAM, and Agency policies, ensuring paychecks and benefits are processed on time and accurately
  • Setting up new hires, processing rehires, transfers, separations, shift differential and all other actions within HRMS and/or PAY1
  • Auditing PEBB worksheets for accuracy and process appropriately
  • Establishing, maintaining and monitoring employee benefits in compliance with RCW, WAC, and CBA Policies
  • Providing information, as required, to DRS, HCA, or insurance carriers
  • Processing special pay for Dual Language employees, Defensive Tactics trainers, etc.
