About The Position

The First Year Experience (FYE) Ambassador supports first-year students and families throughout the academic year by creating touchpoints for belonging, engagement, and continued connection beyond orientation. FYE Ambassadors support first-year students and families through peer mentorship, programming, and outreach. This role involves serving as a peer ambassador, facilitating group meetings, building relationships with students, supporting the planning and execution of FYE programs and initiatives, assisting with welcome series events, orientation, and training week programming, helping plan Family Weekend programming, and supporting ongoing events for parents and families. Additionally, ambassadors will assist with planning, tabling, and facilitating first-year-focused programming initiatives, support the creation and distribution of a bi-weekly FYE newsletter, assist with webinars and virtual socials, conduct outreach to parents and families, and support the development and distribution of FYE-related swag. They will also serve as peer navigators, helping students identify and access campus resources and services, and share information about involvement opportunities, support services, and campus life.

Requirements

  • Current student at Berklee College of Music or Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
  • Enrolled at least half-time in a degree, diploma, or certificate-seeking undergraduate or graduate program.
  • Summer employment requires pre-registration for the upcoming fall semester if not enrolled.
  • Have a valid United States Social Security Number (SSN).
  • Remain in “valid” Visa status as applicable.
  • A minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA (students in their first semester are exempt).
  • Federal Work Study student may apply.
  • In good disciplinary standing.
  • Must be located in the U.S.
  • Attend one of the scheduled Student Leader Information Sessions.
  • Strong interest in supporting first-year students and building community.
  • Active listening skills and an empathetic, supportive approach.
  • Clear, respectful communication skills.
  • Ability to engage across difference and work with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Reliability, organization, and consistent follow-through.
  • Comfort engaging peers in conversation, group settings, or check-ins.
  • Willingness to learn about and share campus resources.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience as an orientation leader, or peer mentor.
  • Interest in peer coaching, advising, or student success work.
  • Experience planning or facilitating programs or events.
  • Comfort with tabling, outreach, or public-facing engagement.
  • Experience supporting newsletters, social media, or communications.
  • Creativity, initiative, and flexibility in supporting student engagement efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a peer ambassador for first-year students, offering guidance, encouragement, and support.
  • Facilitate group meetings and optional 1:1 check-ins to support student transition and belonging.
  • Build relationships with incoming and first-year students, with particular attention to off-campus first-year students.
  • Support planning and execution of First Year Experience programs and initiatives.
  • Assist with developing and supporting welcome series events and orientation and training week programming.
  • Help plan and support Family Weekend programming.
  • Support ongoing events and programs for parents and families throughout the academic year.
  • Assist with planning, tabling, and facilitating first-year-focused programming initiatives.
  • Support creation and distribution of a bi-weekly First Year Experience newsletter.
  • Assist with webinars, virtual socials, and onboarding-related programming.
  • Conduct outreach to parents and families to share resources, programs, and support opportunities.
  • Support development and distribution of FYE-related swag and welcome materials.
  • Serve as peer navigators by helping students identify and access campus resources and services.
  • Share information about involvement opportunities, support services, and campus life.
