First-Year Advisors are school/college-based advising positions housed within the College of Arts & Sciences, the Lundquist College of Business, and the School of Journalism and Communication. Together, these multiple positions support first-year student success in collaboration with Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS). The College of Arts & Sciences serves students across the humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences, including students exploring a wide range of academic pathways. The Lundquist College of Business supports students pursuing business education connected to leadership, innovation, sustainability, and career readiness. The School of Journalism and Communication prepares students for academic and professional pathways in journalism, media, communication, advertising, public relations, and related fields. Each First-Year Advisor follows the reporting structure of the school or college in which the position is housed, while collaborating with UESS, school/college advising teams, and campus partners to support proactive advising, outreach, referrals, and first-year student success. The First-Year Advisor supports first-year student retention and persistence through proactive, coordinated, and equity-minded advising within an academic school or college. This role provides direct advising and early, sustained engagement with an identified first-year student caseload. First-Year Advisors collaborate with Undergraduate Education and Student Success (UESS), school/college advising teams, and campus partners to support coordinated outreach, referrals, case management, and first-year student intervention strategies. They work closely with school/college advising leadership, UESS, and campus advising partners to ensure aligned support for first-year student success. There are 5 positions available. Two of the positions will be embedded in and report to the Lundquist College of Business, two will be embedded in and report to College of Arts and Sciences (Natural Sciences), and one will be housed in the School of Journalism and Communication. All 5 positions will participate in shared work in partnership with Undergraduate Education and Student Success.
