About The Position

Hato Hone St John is seeking volunteers to operate a First Response Unit (FRU) ambulance in Piction. This role is crucial for responding to time-critical emergency incidents, such as cardiac arrests, when a full-time ambulance is not immediately available. FRU volunteers will be provided with pagers and have the flexibility to choose when they can respond, with no fixed roster or obligation. Volunteer crews will convene at the Station, utilize the FRU to reach the scene, and provide essential patient care until further assistance arrives.

Requirements

• A full and clean NZ driver's licence for at least 12 months or have completed an approved NZTA advanced driving course (if full licence held for less than 12 months).
• Be 18 years of age or over.
• New Zealand citizenship or permanent resident status.
• A clean Police record.
• Pass the recruitment assessment including physical / written and interview assessments.
• Meet our medical standards.
• Be trustworthy and reliable.
• Have excellent communication skills (written and oral).
• Ideally be living within a short drive from the station to be able to respond.

Nice To Haves

• A First Aid certificate level 2 is preferred, but training will be provided if not currently held.

Responsibilities

• Operate the First Response Unit (FRU) ambulance in Piction.
• Respond to time-critical emergency incidents when a full-time ambulance is not immediately available.
• Meet at the Station and take the FRU to the scene.
• Provide critical patient care until further assistance arrives.
• Remain engaged in training and attend a reasonable number of callouts after completing initial training.
