About The Position

Reporting to the Ambulance Director, the Ambulance Driver trainee level position is intended to provide meaningful on-the-job training and experience for an individual who is pursuing training and certification as an EMT. Pursuant to state regulation, an employee may not work in this capacity for more than 12 months. This position description is intended to identify some of the duties and responsibilities of this position. Modoc Medical Center reserves the right to modify, supplement, delete or augment the duties and responsibilities specified in this position description, at Modoc Medical Center’s sole and absolute discretion.

Requirements

  • Current BLS level CPR certification.
  • Possession of valid California Ambulance Driver’s Certificate.
  • Able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing
  • Mental acuity and reasoning ability sufficient to perform job duties in a safe, efficient manner.
  • Temperament able to deal effectively with stresses produced by EMS work situations.
  • Capability to meet physical demands of job on an ongoing basis.
  • Maintain a driving record acceptable to Modoc Medical Center’s insurance carriers.
  • Ability to use a typical desktop computer with basic applications.
  • Is dependable, reliable with good attendance and the ability to work with others, at all levels within the organization, and collaborate effectively.
  • Above-average interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills.
  • Must be a team player to all departments, confidential of sensitive data, respectful of all other staff members, considerate of other people’s time, and accountable for work output.

Responsibilities

  • Assists licensed or certified personnel to provide care to the sick and injured.
  • Consistently demonstrates a high level of customer service and professional responsibility, portraying a positive image of Modoc Medical Center and its employees.
  • Safely drives ambulances and operates related equipment in an efficient manner.
  • Stocks, cleans and maintains ambulances and related equipment in a safe and ready-to-respond condition.
  • Documents activities, needs and events using prescribed methods.
  • Works under direct supervision of ambulance crew leader at all times.
  • Cleans and maintains buildings and grounds of ambulance stations, offices, and living quarters.
  • Maintains a cooperative team atmosphere with other crew members, hospital employees and allied agency staff.
  • Maintains availability for on-call duties in accordance with current hospital policy.
  • Maintains awareness of potentially dangerous situations and take appropriate action to ensure safety of self, other employees, patients, and the public.
  • Maintains physical fitness and participate in didactic and skill training/enhancement activities as directed.
  • Performs other duties appropriate to the employee’s knowledge, skills and abilities as assigned.
  • Always demonstrates a professional behavior, both when on duty and as a representative of the hospital outside of normal work hours.
  • Always demonstrates a positive working relationship with patients, visitors and facility staff.
