About The Position

Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Fireman - Power Generation Mechanic for the Operation of Plant Department. This role involves maintaining the safe and efficient operation of various hospital equipment including incinerators, steam boilers, feed water pumps, water softeners, chillers, chill water pumps, cooling towers, air handling systems, temperature control systems (pneumatic and D.D.C.), plumbing systems, and all other related mechanical/electrical equipment. The position also includes maintaining, expanding, and improving the hospital's energy management systems. The incumbent must possess manual dexterity, motor coordination, and a high degree of mechanical ability, with the capacity to follow written and verbal instructions. A key responsibility is the ability to read blueprints and wiring diagrams, and to operate steam boilers and the incinerator recovery boiler, while maintaining necessary logs. Familiarity with primary power circuits feeding the hospital, including emergency power back-up systems (substation, electrical feed transformers, breakers, emergency power transfer switches, switch gear, and motor control centers) is essential for ensuring continuous power supply during utility failures. The role also requires maintaining generators and all associated records and logs. The incumbent must be skilled in manipulating electrical systems and controls for paralleling generators and transferring power through breakers to critical hospital systems.

  • High School diploma or equivalent is required
  • Junior College/Technical School – (Two Years/Union Hall Apprenticeship) is required
  • Minimum of 2 to 5 Years of Position-Related Experience

Nice To Haves

  • Military Power Generation and or Boiler Operation is preferred
  • Navy Training with boilers is preferred
  • 5+ Years of Position-Related Experience is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Maintain the safe and efficient operation of the incinerator, steam boilers, feed water pumps, water softeners, chillers, chill water pumps, cooling towers, air handling systems, temperature control systems (pneumatic and D.D.C.), plumbing systems, and all other related mechanical/electrical equipment.
  • Maintain, expand, and improve the hospital's energy management systems.

  • Maintain any necessary logs.

  • Ensure continuous power supply to the hospital for selected areas in the event of utility power failure.
  • Maintain generators.
  • Maintain all records and logs necessary to maintain equipment.
