About The Position

The Logan City Civil Service Commission is recruiting eligible applicants to establish a hiring roster with the Logan City Fire Department for the position of Firefighter Paramedic. This role offers an opportunity to increase knowledge and experience.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age at the time of examination.
  • Must be a high school graduate or have GED equivalency.
  • Must not have been convicted of any felony, or misdemeanor involving moral turpitude.
  • Must be able-bodied and capable of speaking and writing the English language.
  • Must be a citizen of the United States or be eligible to work within the United States.
  • Must pass a pre-employment background and reference check, and a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be certified as a Utah Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic or a National Registry Technician Paramedic, or be in current enrollment in a Paramedic Program (will not be hired as a Paramedic until certification is obtained).
  • Must be certified as a Firefighter I and II, Haz Mat Awareness and Operations by the Utah Fire and Rescue Academy or any accredited International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC) agency, or be in current enrollment in Firefighter I and II, Haz Mat Awareness, and Operations (must be completed within nine (9) months of the application process).
  • Must have a valid driver's license.

  • Prior Fire and EMS experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performing a variety of fire suppression activities at the fire scene, including laying and connecting hose, holding nozzles and directing water streams, raising and climbing ladders, and utilizing a variety of equipment, including pike poles, smoke ejectors, and forcible entry tools.
  • Operating fire suppression and/or emergency assistance equipment.
  • Performing emergency rescue activities at fire, accident, or other emergency scenes.
  • Managing activities at accidents or other emergency scenes.
  • Administering emergency medical care at fire, accident, and other emergency rescue scenes.
  • Performing fire safety inspections of businesses, manufacturing/industrial facilities, schools, and other commercial/public facilities to identify fire hazards, potential/actual fire code violations, and to verify locations of hazardous materials.
  • Talking with school groups and other City residents to explain fire safety/fire prevention practices and techniques and inform them about the functions of the Logan City Fire Department.
