This position involves fire suppression, emergency medical services (EMS), inspections, fire prevention and pre-planning activities relating to the fire department. The firefighter participates in daily activities including routine maintenance and cleaning of apparatus, equipment and fire stations. Shall participate in training programs designated by the fire department and perform related work as required by the Fire Chief and the Pueblo West Metropolitan District. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to the following: driving apparatus in all weather and traffic conditions in a safe manner, assist in the protection of life and property by controlling hazardous situations, layout and connect hose lines, control nozzles and direct water streams, position and climb ladders, use power tools, various tools relating to fire prevention and extinguishment tasks, ventilate burning buildings and perform rescue and salvage operations. Respond to emergency medical calls and provide Advanced Life Support (ALS) treatment at the paramedic level, hazardous materials incidents, special rescue incidents and auto accidents including entrapments. Shall be competent with water supplies and fire hydrant operations. Knowledge of basic hydraulics, fire streams and fire ground operations. Assist with public relations and fire prevention programs including routine fire inspections, school functions and fire/EMS pre-planning. Participate in training programs designated by the fire department for the continuous improvement of firefighter and EMS education. Be advocates promoting health and safety in the workplace.
