About The Position

The Town of Longboat Key is seeking applications for a Full-Time Firefighter Paramedic. This role involves skilled, specialized work of varied difficulty in preventing, suppressing, and extinguishing fires, performing rescue and emergency medical services, and supporting fire-rescue operations. The position operates under the direction of the Fire Chief and supervision of the Station Officer. Requirements

Complete FireTEAM testing and obtain a valid NTN-issued CPAT through the National Testing Network (unless eligible for exemption).
Submit a Town of Longboat Key employment application.
Meet minimum qualifications and applicable Fire Rescue selection requirements.
Complete an employment physical and drug-screening test.
Maintain American Heart Association CPR Basic Rescuer card.
Maintain American Heart Association Advanced Cardiac Life support provider certification.
Maintain Paramedic certification.
Florida Paramedic certification.
Florida Firefighters' Standards certification.
Valid Florida Driver's License, Class E endorsement (MVR background check).
Must possess/obtain EVOC card (16 hours).
Must be able to successfully negotiate the basic training program as conducted by the department, including a successful completion of the Paramedic Field Training Program.
Ability to develop and maintain a thorough knowledge of basic firefighting skills and knowledge.
Hepatitis B vaccination, proof of same, or signed Acknowledgement declining the vaccination must be provided prior to assuming Town duties.
Must be able to comply with FS 633 including but not limited to firefighting, apparatus/pumping operations.
Use of forcible entry tools.
Donning and use of protective breathing apparatus.
Administration of CPR.
Tying off and hoisting of tools, ladders, and appliances.
Tactical advancement of charged hose lines into a structure, up a ladder into an upper floor window, up/down a stairway.
Carry and raise any ground ladder.
Climb any ground or aerial ladder.
Bring an injured person down any ground or aerial ladder.
Perform ventilation.
Remove injured persons from hostile environments.
Perform overhaul procedures.
Drive apparatus and rescue vehicles.
Operate fire apparatus.
Operate marine craft.
Operate communications devices (radio, telephone).
Operate computer keyboards.
Read written orders.
Swim 100 yards (untimed).
Tread water for five (5) minutes.

Nice To Haves

Candidates who are currently employed, or have been employed within the preceding 12 months, as a full-time career Firefighter/Paramedic with a professional fire-rescue agency may be exempt from the NTN FireTEAM and CPAT requirements upon verification of qualifying employment and required certifications.
A high degree of physical fitness is a definite advantage towards the successful completion of the training objectives.

Responsibilities

Respond to alarms and perform duties on the alarm scene and in the station as assigned.
Maintain a thorough knowledge of basic fire fighting curriculum and skills.
Directly responsible to the medical control hospital on the scene of a medical emergency.
Promptly treat any sick or injured person at the scene of a medical emergency, or oversee firefighters and EMTs in their treatment.
Perform Paramedic skills and procedures in emergencies as applicable under Florida statutes, including scene control, patient assessment, airway management, ventilation, oxygen administration, CPR, bleeding control, shock treatment, poisoning treatment, wound dressing and bandaging, splinting fractures, recognizing and treating medical and environmental emergencies, providing obstetrical assistance, and caring for newborn and premature infants.
Execute proper rescue and extrication techniques.
Recognize and interpret an EKG.
Administer D.C. electrical counter shock (defibrillate/cardio version).
Administer intravenous electrolyte or glucose solutions.
Perform gastric suction by intubation.
Perform esophageal intubations.
Administer specific classes of drugs as deemed necessary by the medical director, subject to Florida statutes.
Ensure deficiencies in ambulance and equipment are reported to the supervisor.
Ensure protective gear, clothing, tools, and apparatus are in proper working order.
Report to work as required by the Disaster Plan Recovery Guide and maintain regular attendance.
Attend Pump Operations and Hydraulic class provided by the department.
Attend mandatory training.
Perform Annual Fire Inspections and Pre-plan Assignments.
Perform any other functions deemed essential by the Town and communicated by a supervisor.
