About The Position

The City of Albany is accepting applications for Firefighter/Paramedic (Lateral). There are two (2) vacancies. This position requires a High School diploma or GED equivalency, six (6) months of experience working as a full-time paramedic in a 911 transporting agency, and must be a current full-time firefighter/paramedic with at least one (1) year of experience and have successfully completed the agency's probationary period. Possession of a California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I certification is also required. Positions in this classification must be free of felony convictions and successfully pass a department pre-employment screening process which includes a psychological evaluation, medical examination, and full background investigation. Positions are subject to mandatory call back at any time and require working nights, weekends, holidays, and on various shift configurations that will include 48-hour tours of duty.

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED equivalency
• Six (6) months of experience working as a full-time paramedic in a 911 transporting agency at time of application
• Current full-time firefighter/paramedic with at least one (1) year of experience and have successfully completed the agency's probationary period
• Possession of a California State Fire Marshal Firefighter I certification
• Possession of a valid California Paramedic License
• Possession of a valid ACLS certification
• Possession of a valid PALS or PEPP certification
• Possession of a valid PHTLS or ITLS certification
• Possession of a valid BLS for Healthcare Provider certification
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License with a DMV Firefighter Endorsement
• Free of felony convictions
• Successfully pass a department pre-employment screening process (psychological evaluation, medical examination, full background investigation)

Responsibilities

• Work nights, weekends, holidays, and on a various shift configuration that will include 48-hour tours of duty
• Respond to emergencies and provide medical care as a paramedic
• Perform firefighting duties
• Participate in department pre-employment screening process including psychological evaluation, medical examination, and full background investigation
• Be subject to mandatory call back at any time
