About The Position

The City of Pleasanton is seeking dedicated, service-driven Firefighter-EMTs to join the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department (LPFD). This role involves responding to a variety of emergencies including fires, medical incidents, rescues, hazardous materials calls, and public assistance requests. The LPFD serves a combined population of approximately 172,000 across 10 stations, with 105 suppression personnel, 8 engine companies, and 2 Tiller Trucks. The department emphasizes safety, dignity, and respect, and provides specialty rescue and hazardous materials response units, a training facility, and a fire prevention bureau. Requirements

Passage of the Cal-JAC CPAT and the FCTC Written Test within one (1) year of application deadline (on or after September 13, 2025).
Possession of a valid California Emergency Medical Technician -1 (EMT-1) Certificate or a National Registry Emergency Medical Technician Certificate.
Placement on the FCTC SEL by September 13, 2026.
Possession of a high school diploma, G.E.D. equivalent, or high school proficiency certificate.
At least 18 years of age at date of final filing of application.
Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License, or a valid Class A or B Commercial California Driver’s License and a valid Medical Examiner's Card must be maintained.
Possession of a valid California DMV Firefighter Endorsement is required within six (6) months of employment.
All EMT certifications must remain current and not expire during first six months of employment.
For Lateral Entry: Minimum of twenty-four (24) months in Fire Suppression as a full-time, paid member of a municipal, county, or other fire agency comparable to the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department.
For Lateral Entry: Firefighter I and Firefighter II Certifications or the IFSAC/Pro Board equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Knowledge of fire department operations, such as rescue, firefighting, medical assistance, radio communications, Incident Command System (ICS), fire protection equipment and systems, fire behavior, hazardous materials, and water systems.
Knowledge of Federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and standards.
Knowledge of use and maintenance of firefighting equipment and apparatus.
Knowledge of Emergency medical procedures and techniques as prescribed in the State of California Emergency Medical Technician curriculum in accordance with California Title 22.

Knowledge of Basic mathematics, chemistry, and physics of fire behavior and hazardous materials.

Ability to perform rescues.
Ability to operate, maintain, inspect, and repair vehicles, apparatus, equipment, and communication systems.
Ability to clean and maintain fire station and grounds.
Ability to conduct fire inspections (Annual Fire Company Inspection Program).
Ability to teach classes and participate in public education demonstrations and activities.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing by using correct English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
Ability to write comprehensive reports and maintain accurate records.
Ability to relate effectively to those contacted in the course of work.
Ability to learn local conditions, locations, and regulations.
Ability to operate computers and use required software.

Responsibilities

Respond to fire, rescue, medical, hazardous materials, and other emergency incidents as an integral member of the company, carrying out assigned duties under the direction of company officers.
Drive and operate apparatus and specialized equipment safely and effectively during emergency and non-emergency operations.
Conduct daily inspections, testing, maintenance, and minor repairs on firefighting equipment and tools to ensure operational readiness.
Participate in ongoing training, drills, and professional development to maintain and enhance firefighting, emergency medical, and rescue skills.
Accurately complete medical reports, equipment inspections, maintenance records, and other required documentation.
Participate in fire prevention activities, public education, and fire safety inspections as part of a company.
Uphold the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, customer service, and compliance with department policies and procedures while serving the communities of Livermore and Pleasanton.
