About The Position

Arlington County is seeking motivated individuals for a career as a Firefighter/EMT with the Arlington County Fire Department (ACFD). You will respond to emergencies across diverse environments, including high-rise buildings, highways, single-family homes, and airports. Opportunities exist to join specialized units such as Hazardous Materials, Technical Rescue, Swift Water Rescue, or the Bomb Squad. You can also contribute to fire prevention, emergency communications, logistics, health and safety, human resources, and training. Collaboration with regional partners, including other fire and rescue departments, state, and federal agencies, is a key aspect of the role. The ACFD offers industry-leading support, including schedule flexibility with a predictable schedule of 8 or 9 days per month and a 50-hour workweek. Requirements

  • Completed the requirements for graduation from a standard senior high school or vocational school or obtained a GED certificate or the equivalent by date of hire.
  • Be 18 years old by date of hire.
  • Obtain a passing grade on written and practical Firefighter examinations and pass all pre-employment physical and mental evaluations.
