About The Position

The Williston Fire Department is seeking dedicated and community-driven Firefighter (AEMT) Trainees to join the 2026 Summer/Fall Academy! The City of Williston Fire Department invites you to apply to begin your career in Fire and Emergency services. A Firefighter (AEMT) Trainee serves as a member of a crew responding to fire calls, disaster calls, and emergency medical calls. A career in the fire service includes training in control and extinguishment of fires and/or mitigating other disasters, applying necessary emergency medical care to sick or injured persons, and participating in the maintenance of station equipment and quarters. The purpose of the Firefighter (AEMT) Trainee position is to prepare incumbents to be specifically trained to respond to emergency situations involving fire suppression, medical emergencies, hazardous materials, or special rescues all while providing the highest level of service to those sick and injured. The incumbent in this position is responsible for performing job duties in an accurate manner in order to protect the life and property of the citizens of the City of Williston and surrounding areas.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • 12-18 months of satisfactory work experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Must possess a valid Driver’s License.
  • Must have or be able to complete CPR & First Aid.
  • Must have or be able to obtain the Firefighter I & II standards certificate.
  • Must have or be able to obtain the Hazardous Material Operations & Awareness certificate.
  • Must have or be able to obtain the NIMS ICS 100, 200, 700 & 800 certifications.
  • Must have or be able to obtain the NR AEMT certificate.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and standard operating guidelines.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before patients, crews and groups of customers or employees of an organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to utilize both internal and external resources to obtain information and data necessary to carry out routine assignments and special projects.
  • Must have ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with management and staff.
  • Must be able to work both independently and in a team environment, using a high level of professionalism and critical thinking.
  • Must be able to physically move, lift, carry and manipulate up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of a crew responding to fire calls, disaster calls, and emergency medical calls.

  • Apply necessary emergency medical care to sick or injured persons.
  • Participate in the maintenance of station equipment and quarters.

  • Learn and perform the essential duties of a Firefighter (AEMT).
  • Work in flexible and unpredictable environments.
  • Possess the discipline to study academic materials, practice assessments, and be familiar with drills.
  • Perform truck and equipment checks daily on EMS and Fire apparatus.
  • Clean and maintain station and equipment.
  • Regularly participate in personal, company, and department training.
  • Participate daily in either group or self-directed physical fitness activities during duty hours.
  • Maintain a safety-focused mindset.
  • Perform all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Benefits

  • Pay increase to $65,041.00 annualized upon completion of all required certifications for the Firefighter (AEMT) Trainee.
