About The Position

Mural Group Industrial is seeking a Fire Watch Technician for a travel contract position at a steel manufacturing facility in Apple Grove, West Virginia. This project is expected to last at least three months and may be extended. The role involves providing dedicated fire watch for an active stick welding operation, monitoring the work area during and after hot work, ensuring fire suppression equipment is ready, and responding to any fire or safety hazards. The technician will be co-located with a crew of 16 structural welders performing work on four large structural steel silos. This is an industrial facility with a safety-first environment.

Requirements

• Documented fire watch experience on live welding, cutting, or other industrial hot work (not classroom only).
• Ability to describe what you look for, how long you monitor after welding stops, and escalation steps if something ignites.
• Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1910.252 hot work requirements and fire watch responsibilities.
• Familiarity with hot work permit systems and fire extinguisher operation.
• Willingness to travel and commit to a 3-plus month project.
• Ability to pass a 7-year background check.
• Ability to pass both urine and hair drug screening.

Nice To Haves

• OSHA 10 (General Industry) certification preferred; OSHA 30 is a strong plus.
• Candidates with current first aid and CPR certification are preferred.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the dedicated fire watch for an active stick welding operation.
• Monitor the work area continuously during and after all hot work operations.
• Watch for ignition of surrounding materials.
• Maintain fire suppression equipment in the work zone.
• Respond appropriately to any fire or safety hazard.
