About The Position

The Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician is a senior-level field technician responsible for the inspection, testing, and maintenance of water-based fire protection systems in accordance with NFPA standards, Illinois state regulations, and company policies. This role requires advanced technical expertise, the ability to work independently, and the capability to interpret codes, identify deficiencies, and recommend corrective actions. The technician will perform inspections on fire sprinkler systems, standpipes, fire pumps, and associated components, ensuring systems are compliant, functional, and properly documented. The Fire Sprinkler Technician must have a NICET Level III Certification. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. Requirements

  • High school Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in fire sprinkler inspection, service, or installation.
  • Strong working knowledge of water-based fire protection systems required.
  • Experience with NFPA standards and fire protection codes required.
  • Advanced knowledge of fire sprinkler systems and components.
  • Strong understanding of NFPA 13, NFPA 25, and related codes.
  • Ability to independently perform complex inspections and testing procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, riser diagrams, and system layouts.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with inspection software and mobile reporting tools.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain technical issues and compliance requirements to customers.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to climb ladders, access confined or elevated spaces, and carry tools and equipment necessary for inspections.
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office Suite for documentation, reporting, communication, and scheduling.
  • Commitment to safety and compliance in all work environments.
  • NICET Level III Certification is required.
  • Have and maintain a driver’s license, maintain an insurable driving record, and be capable of driving on company assignments.
  • Must be able to obtain a Permanent Employee Registration Card from the State of Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (Illinois employees only).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Illinois State licensing.

Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections, testing, and maintenance of fire sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA 25, NFPA 13, and applicable state/local codes.
  • Inspect and test wet, dry, pre-action, and deluge sprinkler systems.
  • Inspect and test standpipe systems.
  • Inspect and test fire pumps and associated equipment.
  • Conduct main drain tests, trip tests, flow tests, and alarm device testing.
  • Identify system impairments, deficiencies, and code violations.
  • Interpret applicable fire codes and standards to determine compliance.
  • Accurately document inspection results in digital and written formats per NFPA and company standards.
  • Generate detailed deficiency reports and provide clear corrective recommendations.
  • Communicate findings with customers, property managers, and AHJs (Authorities Having Jurisdiction).
  • Perform acceptance testing and witness testing for newly installed or modified systems.
  • Coordinate with installation and service teams regarding repairs and system upgrades.
  • Maintain inspection schedules and ensure timely completion of assigned work.
  • Ensure all tools, testing equipment, and company vehicles are properly maintained.
  • Adhere to all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Travel to customer sites and work in various environments and conditions.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior technicians when applicable.
  • Maintain company-issued vehicle, tools, inventory, and communication devices in good working order.
  • Comply with all ADS safety procedures and policies as outlined in the company’s personnel handbook.
  • Maintain punctuality and adhere to attendance requirements and scheduling expectations.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
