About The Position

The Fire Sprinkler Designer will be responsible for producing fire protection design drawings and calculations for permitting and construction across various project types. This role requires proficiency in AutoSprink and BIM coordination using Navisworks. The designer will work independently with minimal supervision from the Firetrol Protection Systems Design Manager, utilizing architect-generated dimensions and structural backgrounds to design fire protection systems. Key responsibilities include identifying and resolving coordination issues, performing hydraulic calculations, completing stock listings, reviewing design drawings before fabrication, coordinating schedules, and reviewing submittals to ensure they meet engineer requirements and fit within available space.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years fire protection design experience in fire protection systems.
  • Proficiency using AutoSprink.
  • Coordination using BIM (Navisworks) is required.
  • RME-G REQUIRED
  • Must be familiar with NFPA 13, 14, 20, 22 and FM Global Standards.
  • Technical understanding of Fire Sprinkler Design including Wet, Dry, Preaction, and Deluge type systems.
  • AutoCAD experience and third party software training
  • Ability to read and interpret project drawings and specifications

Nice To Haves

  • NICET level 3 in Water-Based System Layout is ideal.
  • Texas NICET Level 3 a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Produce fire protection design drawings and calculations for permitting and construction for various types of projects.
  • Design fire protection systems utilizing architect generated dimensions and structural backgrounds.
  • Identify and resolve all elements affecting coordination and communicate any outstanding issues.
  • Perform hydraulic calculations as required.
  • Complete stock listing for fabrication shop as required.
  • Review all design drawings in detail before fabrication.
  • Coordinate with the Design Manager on drawing schedules in conjunction with operations for permit and fabrication schedule.
  • Review all design documents prior to submittal for permit and architect/engineer review.
  • Attend project meetings and jobsite visits, as needed.
  • Perform site surveys as required.
  • Document and advise all parties of any discrepancies, unclear intent or missing information that will affect coordination or design intent.
  • Communicate with the field foremen throughout the design process, making notes of any necessary changes made as a result of coordination.
  • Review submittals for size, quantity and design to ensure they meet engineer requirements, will fit in available space, and are compatible with equipment purchased from other vendors.
