About The Position

The Fire Safety Technician is responsible for the operation and maintenance of life safety systems, including but not limited to fire alarms, fire suppression systems, fire extinguishers, emergency generators and elevators. Manages construction and maintenance activities to ensure institutional procedures are followed and compliance is maintained relative to all applicable local, state and federal regulatory requirement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate operation and maintenance of fire systems including: fire alarms, fire sprinklers and suppression systems, and fire drills. Including inspection of fire extinguishers.
  • Respond to calls regarding fire alarms and life safety systems.
  • Operate and maintain emergency generators including: logs, testing, annual maintenance performed by others, and fuel supply.
  • Maintain and inspect elevators, oversee maintenance and inspection contract with elevator service company.
  • Help with other tasks assigned to utilities operators when schedule permits.
  • Perform generator monthly testing, and other emergency safety equipment testing such as fume hoods, eyewash/emergency shower.
