About The Position

As a Shop Technician, you will work closely with experienced field technicians and learn the fundamentals of fire equipment inspection, maintenance, and repair. This role is ideal for someone who wants to grow into a field technician position and take on more advanced work over time. You will be responsible for inspecting, repairing, and maintaining fire equipment such as extinguishers and related life safety devices, conducting fire extinguisher inspections, maintenance, and audits with value-add recommendations for customers, supporting field technicians by preparing equipment, completing shop-based diagnostics, and ensuring readiness for service calls, and performing site-specific training for owners and end-users. This position requires strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently while maintaining high technical standards. This role provides a strong technical foundation with opportunities to advance into a field technician role working on fire life and mobile service suppression systems. High-performing shop technicians often progress into field roles within 12–24 months, supported by company-paid training, mentorship, and advanced certifications.

Requirements

  • Experience working in a mechanical shop or equivalent hands-on role with vehicles or other motorized equipment
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge, with confidence using power and hand tools
  • Proven ability to work independently, follow technical procedures, and maintain accurate documentation
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
  • Strong communication skills and prior customer service experience
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. unassisted, with good hand/eye coordination and manual dexterity
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and periodic drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal background checks
  • Ability to work wearing a supplied-air respirator for extended periods

  • Forklift operator certification is an asset
