About The Position

AECOM is seeking an Fire Protection Engineering Intern to join the Buildings and Places team in Orange, CA. This position is expected to begin in Summer 2026. Requirements

  • Candidates must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering, mechanical engineering, or civil engineering, and must have completed at least one year of study.
  • Candidates who have recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree and plan to continue with a master’s degree are eligible to apply for these positions.
  • Graduates must have been enrolled in their bachelor’s degree in the most previous school term with an interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the same or similar discipline at the conclusion of the internship.

Nice To Haves

  • Basic knowledge of CAD and Revit preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design fire sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, special suppression systems, and more.
  • Develop life safety code compliance plans.
  • Assist in the development of permit documents.
  • Develop your engineering expertise by learning and applying fire protection principles, design techniques, and industry standards.
  • Assist in the engineering design process under the supervision of a senior engineer, ensuring that designs meet project requirements and safety codes.
  • Prepare designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings, and final working drawings under the guidance of an experienced engineer.
  • Employ computer software tools to solve basic engineering problems and support the design and analysis of fire protection systems.
  • Perform tasks in accordance with the agreed-upon budget and schedule, ensuring project milestones are met while working under supervision.
