Provide technical and programmatic fire protection, life safety, and occupational safety and health (OSH) support to Federal clients. This includes providing fire protection engineering, life safety, and building and fire code compliance advisory services to a variety of potential clients, including architects, developers, owners, and government clients. The role involves reviewing and analyzing proposed fire protection and life safety (FP/LS) equipment and design changes to determine whether systems and equipment meet fire and life safety codes and criteria. The Senior Fire Protection Engineer will contribute as the subject matter expert (SME) and representative of the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in the development of Statements of Work (SOWs) and design and construction proposals, ensuring contract requirements are met. They will develop performance-based design analyses utilizing fire protection engineering principles, code analyses, advisement with AHJ, and other available resources as necessary to suit the specifics of each application. Additionally, the role includes providing engineering reviews of shop drawings, construction oversight and inspection, field surveys and systems acceptance testing for life safety systems, including but not limited to fire suppression, fire detection, and emergency signaling systems. Participation in project meetings to provide progress oversight, coordinate prioritization of work as it relates to other areas of construction and provide recommendations for resolution of issues encountered by construction trades during implementation of life safety system designs is also a key responsibility. The engineer will evaluate existing building and life safety system conditions through code compliance, life safety and fire hazards analysis surveys, and develop technical reports detailing specific fire prevention and protection issues including identified compliance issues, applicable revisions to governing codes or standards, remedial work required to address deficiencies and identified gaps in facility procedures and practices. Review of fire protection engineering deliverables developed by junior fire protection engineers, providing feedback, mentoring, and training, is also expected. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.
